Btw, the boxes you drew don't match the layout pic you provided. You show two slots above the PCIe x16 slot and one beneath it, while the layout image shows one above and two beneath. Looking at the images you provided, I'm pretty sure the layout image has it right. The GPU itself is very very thin, it's the fan assembly that takes so much space, and it's all on one side of the card. That would hide a PCIe x1 slot very easily, whereas you'd see two slots above the GPU clear as day.

Yeah, that's an error on my part, my bad. Probably happened during moving etc. The layout image is correct.
I've just grabbed some random PCI device I've had laying around which I believe is as 'thick' as the sound card and it should fit.

Prefer the soundblaster Z myself but whatever floats your boat.

Oh for fuck's sake! Just look at the manual to figure out which screw and then look at the screw to figure out which screwdriver bit to use.

@Quicklime

Just google the driver bug and see if it's been fixed yet.

^Another person successfully converted. Welcome friend to the discrete audio club. You're one step closer to full blown master race status.

And I'm very glad I did. The difference is staggering. I can't believe I spend so many hours with the crappy onboard device. From now on, every build that crosses me shall be forced to put in a soundcard. No question.

So what's the next step?

Do your ears a favor and get yourself a soundcard lol.

The difference between my old headset and current (Razer Kraken Pro) is also leagues apart and while I don't really have that great gear, the difference between onboard and a (good) soundcard is huge.

Reminds me of when I simultaneously got both a soundcard and good headphones.

A couple of days ago I was at a friend's house, and tried his crappy headphones and onboard audio again. Man, I had forgotten how bad that sounds. But then again, he had a 60Hz monitor, and didn't even have Vsync enabled (!!), so I'm not sure what was distracting me more. Tongue
