pfft, try cl_forcepreload 1 in the console for Tf2. It preloads everything the game needs into the RAM beforehand instead of streaming from the Disk.

I had major FPS issues (1-2 FPS was as high as we got) on a computer primarily used by my youngest brother in TF2 (Pentium E2200 @2.2, HD 6450) and they didn't seem to change when settings were lowered. Eventually we uninstalled a load of things and it went back up to about 30 at non-ugly settings. Unfortunately, I have no idea what software brought about the change because the uninstalls were done in a batch, but you may want to look into junk-clearing.

Well I did have a config with that cvar in it but it didn't help. I don't think the disk is the issue and everything else loads speedily. 03-23-2014, 04:54 PM

Forgot to mention in reply to you this is a clean Windows 7 x64 install so no junk present and a minimal amount of software installed such as drivers, redistributables, Chrome and Steam. Same performance issues with TF2 as before, I have a brand new LGA 775 motherboard on the way so I shall see if that is in any way by an unlucky misfortune adversely affecting performance and if not at least it will resolve other issues I am experiencing. Wish I new what caused my i7 board to "die" and suddenly not do so much as post or beep, just a constantly red CPU/DRAM led's lit upon powering because I would try fixing it. Board isn't really dead considering when I press the power button the fans spin up, the hdd spins up, but the CPU/DRAM led's remain lit and the system doesn't beep/post and shuts down a minute later. 03-24-2014, 07:35 AM
Another annoying issue with this PoS board that wasn't resolved by reinstalling Windows..
After my system has been running for a while and I go to connect a usb device or unplug and replug a usb device I'll get a "USB Device Is Not Recognized" message and all usb devices connected to my system die. I have to not only reboot but also switch off the power suppoly and sometimes hold the power button for a few seconds to get usb devices functional again. The latter I do anyway just to be sure but switching off and on the power supply is almost always required. 03-24-2014, 09:12 AM
Have you tried removing the cpu overclock just to rule it out?
Xtreme2damax Wrote:- Overclocked cpu to 3.3 Ghz however the cpu falls short and clock maxes out 50 Mhz less than target clock rate at 3.28 Ghz. Completely normal. Inaccuracies in measurement are almost always present at every level. Xtreme2damax Wrote:Ram clock speed adjusts with cpu clock speed. In order to run ram at DDR3 1333 (667Mhz) I have to overclock the cpu fsb to at least 333 Mhz. Clearly the fsb and dram speeds are linked, which is the default behavior on most boards. Most boards have an option to unlink them though. Have you checked for this? Xtreme2damax Wrote:Overclocking the fsb past 333 Mhz will overclock the Pci-e bus speed. There is no way to revert this other than downclocking fsb back to 333Mhz or lower as the option greys out. Unusual but depending on how the boards clock tree is setup it's certainly possible. I'm surprised there are no options to change this though. Xtreme2damax Wrote:However Cpu-Z reports the same clock speed as the bios which is correct so maybe it's an error on Windows 7's part. Most likely, yes. Why not buy a new LGA1366 board instead of buying more LGA775 boards? I might have an old dual core LGA1156 system (clarkdale i5 6xx) you can use. Not sure if the motherboard still works though as its been years since I turned it on. Xtreme2damax Wrote:Any idea what could be the culprit? Not without more testing. Xtreme2damax Wrote:Is there any motherboard issue that would cause this? I was thinking maybe there isn't enough bandwidth in the bus between the cpu, ram and gpu or the cpu isn't performing like it should. Most games just copy all the geometry/texture data they need into vram during level loading and from that point on the system memory and vram don't communicate much. So it's highly unlikely. Xtreme2damax Wrote:TF2 seems to be the only game so far with performance issues. I think other games that rely more on the cpu might have performance issues but even so it shouldn't be to the extent it is in TF2. If TF2 is the only application showing issues then it's clearly an issue with TF2. What else have you tested?

As I said other games work fine, I get fps drops but nowhere near as bad as in TF2. Yes I've tried using bios defaults and stock clocks but there was no difference, it didn't make performance in TF2 any better. No there doesn't appear to be an option to unlink cpu, dram and pci-e clock speeds so each can be adjusted independently. As for why I don't buy another LGA 1366 board it's because the boards Newegg or Amazon have in stock are either way too expensive or are cheap no name brand boards and I don't want to take the risk. I could likely buy another Sabertooth X58 from the manufactuar and hope it doesn't eventually fail like the last two boards. That would still require that I have money which I don't have, my parents purchased a new LGA 775 board for me but I am paying them back by doing work for them.
Wish I new what is wrong with my i7 board that failed around a week after moving and there was a way to fix it. 03-24-2014, 02:09 PM
Just buy a used one. Lots of people are looking to get rid of their nehalem boards to upgrade to haswell.

Yes I could but not off of Amazon.com. Idiots there are trying to pawn off their used boards for as much or more than they retailed for when brand new. Considering LGA 1366 is old now and the fact the board is used should mean I should be able to purchase it for under $100 but no.. -_-
All LGA 1366 boards, even used boards are going for over $200 and the decent boards are closer to and over $300 to $500. Lolwut are they serious? It's a used friggin board and the tech is nearly five years old now and superseded by three generations. 03-25-2014, 03:05 PM

Lol I could give you my old i7 930 and P6t Deluxe V2 for like ~150€ if you want to^^
EDIT: I only include the i7 because I don't have the sockel covering anymore. Not sure if they would bend while shipping :/ |
