I get that some people still hunt and peck, but why backlit? The only people I know who type in the dark are the stereotype malicious teenage hackers of the 80s and 90s, and that was only in TV/movies.

Wait... hackers weren't really like that?

*disappointed*

I generally don't turn my light on until an hour or so after i wake up, because the light switch is too far. Although even then, i can still see the keyboard just fine, with the light from my monitors.

I guess that makes you an 80s/90s stereotypical hacker :p Or now I know someone who types in the dark.

I have like three lights in my room, one is within arm's reach (same distance as my monitor). I usually go dark when I'm watching movies though.

Just to shake things up a bit, I absolutely love my G400, which is cheaper than the G500, and when I was looking at reviews, it seemed to be stated a lot of the time that the G400 was the better one for most people as the laser sensor in the G500 jumps when passing over a stray dent, or hair, or piece of dust, whereas the G400's LED-based system could handle non-perfect surfaces without issue. Then again, it has less buttons, but as L,R,M and the back and forward buttons on the G400 are enough for pretty much everything I use, that hasn't been an issue for me.

Also, a question: Are mechanical keyboards worth the money over a cheap one? I don't think I've ever had the issue that my keyboard has stopped me from typing, or stopped me from winning a game, but I didn't really feel my cheap mouse was holding me back until I'd used a G400 for thirty seconds.

I've never had that problem. And I always thought the G400 was incredibly ugly.

Yes, you will feel the same way within seconds of getting one.
