The reason I am asking is that I already have three 2GB sticks totaling 6GB, I want to just purchase an additional 2GB totaling 8GB to save some money.

That's exactly what I suggested. Yes you can have 2, 3, 4, or more (if your board has enough slots) DIMMs in a dual channel configuration. This works because multiple DIMMs can be wired to the same channel and share the same wires. It's preferable to have the same number of DIMMs on all channels though which is why I recommend 4x2GB.

Yes. Although RAM makes up such a small percentage of the total system power consumption that the lower power ram should hardly make any measurable difference.

Shonumi Wrote:One other question, I'm looking in Newegg's Laptop Memory section. This is where I'm supposed to be looking correct?

Yes. 204 pin is laptop (short DIMMs, higher density but lower max capacity), 240 pin is desktop (long DIMMs, lower density but higher max capacity). The brix is basically a netbook board inside a mini-itx chassis.

I doubt it. More likely it's a combination of the marketing departments not actually understanding the technology themselves and an assumption that the consumer is too stupid to understand it (which is usually an accurate assumption). So they try to invent new buzzwords to brand it with rather than an appropriate description which is harder to understand and less likely to communicate the benefits to the consumer. Pretty much what most consumers seem to want is "describe why yours is better in 5 words or less". They don't care about those of us who do try to understand how the things we buy work because we're the minority.

This shit is in every industry now. My newly beloved aquaculturing industry is infested with this shit to a degree that almost puts HDTVs to shame. As someone with a decent understanding of biology and chemistry I've read some product descriptions that are so stupid it makes me want to start beating my head against a wall of metal spikes.

This is what I am set on for my new hardware:

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=31639328

I presume I can still use my current 800W PSU and be alright, no need for anything else. I'm not sure how sufficient my current ram will be, have 3x 2GB sticks of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 but maybe I should consider this instead:

Let me throw out the $55 cheaper Xeon if you don't mind trading OC'ing for TSX.
