They both look equal in design, etc. The R9 280X undoubtedly has bigger fans, heatsinks, etc. Both are kept pretty cool during gaming.

How dare you speak ill of our imperial perfection! The NSA will find you for this.

Edit: In more related news the R9-290X (it is going to take awhile to get used to this new naming system.....why amd why?) is out now and it crushed the titan at a mere $550. Very impressive for a 28nm GPU.

Isn't that the job of the CIA? Thought the NSA was only for national affairs.

Yeah, read about the R9 290X. It's really great that AMD is so competitive. It'll force NVIDIA to cut its ridiculous prices to something more reasonable.
The drawback, from what I know, is that the R9 280X gets very hot since they raised the threshold a bit. It gets around 95 degrees Celsius on load.

Battlefield 4, Mirror's Edge 2, Star Wars: Battlefront, Need for Speed: Rivals, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, and the next Mass Effect title.

Lol what's that doing there. That doesn't even need Mantle support. It'll even run flawlessly on a calculator.

You haven't been keeping up with the news much have you?

The NSA spies on everyone these days.

Well if they build support into the engine then every game that uses the engine will automatically support it without any additional work regardless of how demanding it is.

Yeah it's more power hungry, louder, and hotter than the titan. As one would expect. So it's not any more efficient architecturally. The noise is my biggest concern. 60 decibels at full load is LOUD. 95C isn't that bad though. The 6990 hit 120C at load if I recall.

Dragon Age: Inquisition? Good thing I'm getting Kaveri.

My 6950 used to run at 99°C in my old case even after throttling down to half-clocks. I tried to make it go hotter by blocking the two tiny air holes in that case to see at what point the emergency shutdown happened, but it just went to below-idle clocks and started cooling down again, even when the air in the case was hot enough to burn me when I took the covers off.

Anyway, I think that 100°C is as hot as the HD69xx chip got without shutting down. This may have been adjusted for the dual-GPU card, but to me that doesn't seem sensible, as there wouldn't be the need to limit the single-chip cards.

GPU: Radeon Vega 56

Weren't you the one that got the used GTX 260 C216? Why would you downgrade to kaveri?

Edit:
@AnyOldName3

After digging up some articles, you're right. It's supposed to run at 90C, not 120C.
