I'm probably going to stick with my 980ti for a good long time. It hasn't failed to make any game I have play at 144 FPS on a 1080p@144hz display. May change if I ever go to 4k, but I don't see the appeal right now. I like 1080p.

Spoken as someone who never had first-hand experience with 4k :p. I enjoy gaming at 4k and with the GTX1080 I can pretty much run a lot of games at 4k@60hz.
But yeah that 980ti is great! I wouldn't jump if I had that. Jumping from the GTX970 though was worth it (even if the prices are ridiculous atm).

At some point I want to grab a 144hz monitor again. Maybe when a good ultra-wide drops €600 or so.
Ideally I'd like something better than IPS due to the bleeding, but it's unlikely we'll see something in mass production soon.
I'll never go TN again, looked like absolute shit last time I had one.

Yeah TN sucks. But have very low lag.
From France with love.

I didn't think too much about backlight bleed....until I figure out what people are talking about . It's not that bad but still...
Color accuracy and viewing angle of IPS are great but it's no match for my OLED display (windows tablet)
I hope 24" OLED or equivalent IGZO panel could be more affordable ...

I am a firm advocate of TN provided you don't do any colour-sensitive work. A good TN, like the ASUS PG278Q, has decent colours, but does not suffer from all the issues of IPS (bleed, glow...). Plus, it's usually a decent chunk cheaper.

Once an actually good all-around display technology appears, or the existing problems of IPS and OLED are fixed, I'll gladly switch. For now, I'll stick to my TNs.

And regarding resolution: it seems that everyone who tries 144Hz vows never to go back, even if they stay at 1080p, and the opposite is true of everyone who tries 4k. I'm currently in the refresh rate camp, but I'm looking to upgrade to 144Hz 2k in the somewhat-near future (hopefully this year). 4k ultrawide 144Hz is of course the dream, but even if you manage to find a manufacturer it's gonna cost like $3000 right now - not to mention the amount of horsepower required to run that kind of thing.

I like my Acer H236HL IPS screen. 1080p at 60Hz is fine for what I need.
Later in the summer I'll be getting a 4k 60Hz tv. I'm excited Smile

2K is 2048x1080. I think you meant QHD (2560x1440).

Yeah, but the trade-off was so not worth it for me. Sure the smoothness was great, but at the cost of everything else looking like crap. Worse color, banding, screen tinting, etc.

If I may, what monitor do you have?

Once you see realize it it'll be a pain yeah.
OLED would be nice to have yeah, but since it's pretty 'new' on the market, the prices are too high atm.
The Dell monitor that's coming is way too expensive as well.

Yeah QHD. I don't see why it's called that though, given that 4k is four times HD.
