So I'm sort of in the market for a laptop and I got a Asus GL552VW-DH71 now but it's really disappointing. Either I'm unlucky or it's crap (although some reviews get better results).
Anyway the CPU gets like to like 96c and throttles down obviously. A lot of the horsepower is wasted and I'm probably going to return it.

If anyone has some suggestions, I'm mostly looking for a laptop with a fast CPU, SSD and high res (dGPU is a welcome addition) that's not too expensive.
I've looked around but there aren't that many good choices (or deals) here in NL.

Well it's not really what you're looking for but my brother got an Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-792G-51LP Black Edition and it's better than I expected. The composants are well balanced and the separate CPU/GPU cooling system is really good.
From France with love.

Taiwan notebook is much better than Chinese notebook
Not sure about yours but Lenovo gaming notebook is known for having unremovable spyware , bad quality components (in most case , the display is the problem) . At least 2 people on this forum have returned their Lenovo laptop already , cheap gaming notebook is not a gaming notebook . After all , you will get what you pay for

this is not the first time I have posted this, but...

avoid lenovo at all costs. my y40-80 was the worst laptop I've ever had the misfortune of owning.

Poor build quality, the corners cracked after 2-foot drops, creating sharp edges which scratch skin.

The right speaker contains large amounts of static, and I couldn't open the case to inspect or fix it (it was stuck).

Low-quality keyboard, left ctrl key requires more pressure to activate beyond the tactile depression point. It also feels mushy.
I actually sent it in for warranty service on the "N" key (not sure), came back with a bad ctrl key.

Windows 7 randomly hard-crashes. I can only assume the issues are caused by driver problems.

The iGPU/AMD drivers randomly decided to stop working. No amount of Device Manager reinstallation eliminated Intel VGA adapter. I spent days on the issue, in the end, had to repair-install Windows 7.

EDIT: haven't returned it yet, the warranty expires in a few months, should I?

I shouldn't take Dacotaco's joke seriously , the Z50 series are not gaming notebook , more likely ultrabook with low end ulv i7 and low end GPU . That's why it's 300$ cheaper

I work in IT and after with dealing with Lenovo on behalf of my clients many times I can easily say they are the worst of all of the major laptop manufacturers in every area (build quality, customer support, features, bloatware, etc.). Although all of the major laptop manufacturers (toshiba, HP, dell, etc.) are pretty bad.

Thanks. I had not considered Clevo because I don't know the brand but if you're vouching for them then I might give them a go. Reading their (the shops) policies though, if the laptop still isn't 'good', then they'll only refund 82% of the price.
So this'll preferably need to be the one. The only other review of the based on the Clevo N150RD barebones is here and it still gets pretty hot (Prime), but it seems that's with the stock TIM.
Gonna look around a little more before I order it but this is a good price I think. It's basically what I paid for the ASUS.

I don't know if they ship to the Netherlands, but Sager, a brand that uses Clevo hardware, has always been good to me and everyone I've recommended them to. We just got several of them for the lab.
Or the new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series laptops are also good, they have a dual cooling solution and my frined got one. Good build quality and he did a clean windows 10 install.
