Ok...been playing dolphin for a long time and have never been satisfide with speed even at low settings...and i think it's bcuz of my gpu...
i have GeForce 6150se onboard graphics card and i want to replace it with a 9500GT...would that help increase performance...i mean a dual core @2.4GHz isn't that bad...i'm pretty sure i can play sonic and the black knight at good speeds since some people play it with 2.0Ghz or 2.2GHz???
so, what change do i need to make to increase performance?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.40GHz
3GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600GTS
AsRock NF6P-VSTA mobo

You'd be better off with an 8800GT.

With Nvidia, a high end card in a series (8800GT) is almost always going to be better than a low end card in a higher series (9500GT).

Have you made sure your computer has a pci express x16 slot? Alot of lower end boards with the integrated graphics are infamous for not having anything.

Onto cards. Thins right now are really weird in video card world. The 8000 and 9000 series have all but disapeared. I had a hard time finding a decent 25-50 dollar range card online these days. You go to newegg and other sites and you will find there are these crap 8000 and 9000 cards with low bit rates, (64 bit is NOT good regardless of any other stats). I personally never get any video card used but that could be your best bet for a good card for cheap. What you might wanna think about is system total wattage. If you on intergrated, i'm asumming you bought a prebuilt computer which are infamous for the lowest power supply out there to make the system run. There is alot of things to consider.

If anything you might wanna just start saving and build yourself another computer in the 400-500 price range. If not and if you have time, wait for prices to drop on cards. Right now, ati and nvidia have been slowing increasing the price of there cards for who knows why. For instance, I got my gts 250 now 5 months ago for 85 dollars. These cards have slowly jumped up to the 120-140 range. Ati has slowly been killing off there 4000 series and increasing prices also. There new cards are nice but if you on budget, avoid the 5600 card unless you struggling on computer wattage. In the end alot of things to consider and think about.

Oh man, a PCI slot?? Really??? Umm... there are a few video cards for it that could possibly improve performance. Even though Dolphin is mostly craving CPU power, you do need a somewhat decent video card to get 60FPS. Try this, a 9400GT for plain old PCI. I have this video card for 16x 2.0 and it plays all GC and most Wii titles just fine on 1024x768.

i know that...but i'm pretty sure it would increase speeds...i mean changing from a 6-series to a 9-series IS good right?
i'm so mad at myself...when i bought my pc i looked at the CPU, RAM and HDD...but didn't know much bout gfx cards except about video ram...and that's how i ended up with this junky graphics card that's not even worth 15$ :S
but anyway thx for the help so far...
