Yes, the guitar can be configured as long as it is seen as a device under Windows Game Controllers.

Configure the guitar using this list of steps:

1. Options > Wiimote Settings
2. Click the Wiimote 1 Configure button
3. Change Extension to Guitar
4. Click the Configure button under Guitar
5. Configure the guitar buttons, strum, whammy and stick
6. Press OK for the extension window
7. Press OK for the wiimote window
8. Start playing Guitar Hero: Metallica
