I know that both amd's 7 series and nvidia's 6 series have their pros and cons but what i want to know is, for dolphin, what is the best? Wich one will work without having to do a bunch of stuff. I read about the 7xxx not working really well in 3d11 http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread...light=7770 but did not find anything about the 6xx serie. I was leading toward the HD 7870 or the new GTX 660 (non ti) but if neither of these card are good for dolphin, i could also buy a 6950 and live with the disadvantages.

Both the 7xxx and 6xx series are having issues with the drivers setting the GPU to idle mode while dolphin is running.

That was fixed after Catalyst 12.6 anyways... So are the problems fixed or is it still better to buy the older cards? if it's only about getting the card out of sleep it's not really a problem, i guess there is a software that can do that but in the post i linked the card was just not working correctly. People say it's a driver issue but nobody can proove it. Anybody with a 28nm card that can tell us if it works with catalyst 12.8 or wathever nvidia drivers are? I would prefer to buy a newer card but since i'm regularly playing dolphin, i dont want to end playing my games at 1x ir with hd 4000 because of some drivers that are not optimized and may take months to be. 09-15-2012, 10:17 AM
Quote:People say it's a driver issue but nobody can proove it. We can and did prove it. Both 7xxx and 6xx cards were running at idle clocks while running dolphin. Forcing normal clock rates massively improved performance. Just buy a 660 and be done with it. If it does have problems there are always workarounds available until the drivers are fixed.

Yeah, it was running at normal clock a month after the card lauched when the drivers were not really optimized but what about now? I've never seen anybody saying that the problem was fixed and who knows when it will? but is there a way that is 100% known to work and get the card out of sleep? I read about nvidia inspector or something like that but i just dont want to end up having a card worse then my old hd 6850. That just does not makes sense. 09-15-2012, 11:29 AM
The idle problem is fixed by setting texcache to safe, according to Linkinworm a few days ago on the IRC.

Can you do this for both amd and nvidia? and what does it do exactly? And what about amd's performance in 3d11? I know im asking alot of questions and im sorry but just dont want to be stuck with a gpu that doesnt work as it should and 250$ is a lot of money for me. ![]() 09-15-2012, 01:23 PM

Get a GTX 570, then. Problem solved. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130593 They are known to be quite stable in Dolphin. Otherwise, 660 all the way. EDIT: If you have a large case with good cooling and a 700w+ PSU, get the GTX 480. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130759 09-15-2012, 01:43 PM

It's in Dolphin's graphics settings (you're sliding that slidebar in Graphics > Hacks all the way to the left). It should have a negligible effect on performance, and should also prevent a few graphical bugs in games that don't have a set texcache accuracy but should have one. As for performance, I haven't a goddamn clue. The most powerful GPU I own is an Intel HD 3000. *shrugs*
