Thank you very much Benze! I'm working my hardest!

Why not a development platform, like http://www.arndaleboard.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page ? I'm not very familiar with Mali GPUs, but it looks like it has a comparable or better GPU than the GS4. There are probably some other dev platforms too...
Also I think you can use money from the banana stand for this instead of fundraising (well, both works too). 04-06-2013, 07:37 AM
New information in the first post for everyone.
Also, shuffle2, your avatar is amazing. 04-06-2013, 08:11 PM
Hi, I just want to point something out. You don't need to buy a device to start developing a GLES3 graphics plugin, you can do this right now by downloading the Mali GLES 3.0 SDK + "Emulator" (it's not really an emulator just wrapper API) which lets you use GLES 3.0 in standard Windows/Linux apps for development/testing purposes. This will be far less painful than trying do this with the experimental ARM branch and Android dev.
Of course later on you will need to merge your changes and starting testing on real devices but you can wait until much later when you are getting close to finishing the GLES3 plugin for Windows/Linux. I know this is possible because I did actually start doing this myself a few months ago with modifying the GL plugin to support using GLES3. I got as far as adding the relevant bits to use EGL contexts in Windows and modifed the renderer to use VBOs. I stopped working on this due to personal reasons that I do not wish to discuss. 04-07-2013, 03:01 AM
Hey, that's no problems. I've actually already tried using the Mali GLES3 SDK and also the adreno SDK which provides the same thing. Thing is that we want to show everyone the application actually running on a phone. Our OpenGL plugin with the GLSL rewrite merged in is almost OpenGL ES 3 capable. We just require a few more bits to change.

Figured that this would be interesting to share. Everyone can see the current donation stats.
It shows we have had a sharp drop off. Of course that is to be expected since we hit Reddit /r/Android main page and that seemed to be where most of the donations came from. Go Sweden in these donations by the way. 04-10-2013, 06:28 AM
Small update for everyone.
Right now I'm busy cleaning up the implementation of Android on top of the Dolphin code base. Which involved me breaking input for one thing. I am working on rewriting the UI to try and use "facebook" style side menu drawers and bringing up stability. I also need to rewrite our OSD namespace to support more than text so I can draw images(buttons) on screen each frame. I need to implement a controllerinterface for Android input to make it clean. Bunch of other stuff still to do for stability and cleanliness purposes so it can get merged in to master. After that I should be bringing in OpenGL ES 3 when the Galaxy S4 comes along. Which that may require a bit more work in other areas. 04-10-2013, 07:45 AM

hey my uncle has a galaxy s4! maybe i could "borrow" it from him for this project! too bad this won't happen, but I hope that I can get some donations to you for this project. I will be following development closely, as this is one of the most interesting projects I have seen here with the dolphin devs so far, aside from hashless and new ax-hle of course. Out of curiosity, what is your estimate of how fast the android version of dolphin will run at with the galaxy s4? about 5- 10 fps or so?

At the moment, 1FPS max even if it doesn't crash.
Our OpenGL backend isn't ported to Android/OpenGLES3 yet. If he has the octa version of the Galaxy S4, it won't work either since it doesn't have GLES3. |
