I was helped by this message, so many thanks to skid:
The solution consists in setting a different BBA_MAC for each Dolphin instance. If you don't do that, the MAC address will be the same by default, and it will freeze when virtual gamecubes find one another. This solution relies on the command line parameter "/U" to set a different configuration for each Dolphin instance.
To sum up:
1) Install Dolphin
2) Open a command line prompt (cmd), go in the dolphin folder, and start dolphin twice, each time with a different /U. This will create two configurations folders.
Example:
Code:cd C:\Program Files\Dolphin
Dolphin.exe /U c:\dolphin-conf1
Dolphin.exe /U c:\dolphin-conf2
3) In each dolphin prepare your ISO folder and enable BBA in the Gamecube tab ("SP1" parameter). Then close both Dolphin instances.
3) In each configuration folder, open Config\Dolphin.ini, look for the line "BBA_MAC" (line 191 in my case), and set a unique 12 digits number.
Example:
in c:\dolphin-conf1\Config\Dolphin.ini -> BBA_MAC = 000000000001
in c:\dolphin-conf2\Config\Dolphin.ini -> BBA_MAC = 000000000002
4) Download OpenVPN and install it : ( http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/re...x86_64.exe ) . This will create a first TAP adapter for one Dolphin instance to use.
5) Download TAP windows from the same website and install it ( http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/re....9.2_3.exe ). Then run the file "c:\Program Files\TAP-Windows\bin\addtap.bat". This will create a second TAP adapter, for a second Dolphin.
6) In Windows Network Connections window ( http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2011/0...s-7-vista/ ), select both TAP connections, right click, and create a bridge.
7) Start both Dolphins as done in 2, and start your game in each one of them (e.g. Mario Kart). LAN mode should work properly, and you have 8 players mario kart on a single computer .
I get an error "the specified file "/u" does not exist every time i try to create the config fileĀ Dolphin.exe /U c:\dolphin-conf2. Please advise. Thanks

Hi sorry to bother everyone, but has their been any progress on the command prompt?
Ive have a VPN service working, bridged and ready to go. But for the life of my cant format the commands to properly generate the config files to have two seperate instances working at the same time. Each time I attempt the command (Desktop\Dolphin\Dolphin.exe /u C:\Users\Me\Desktop\Dolphin\dolphin-conf1) it just says "the specified file "/u" does not exist". Please send help! 02-24-2023, 06:46 PM
Windows-style arguments don't work anymore. You'll have to replace /u with -u.

I tried following the tutorial from Zerwan with the changes suggested by JosJuice, however I get stick after step 7, they can't find each other. I believe it is because on of the sessions arent prorperly binding to a tap adapter. Screenshot for reference. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/9.../image.png
Also, I don't even get the option for Lan Mode when trying to emulate it through netplay. 05-25-2024, 01:09 PM
The instructions got a bit spread around in this forum so i created a new text walk through in the link below. I also plan on creating a video at some point as well.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PA...CQ0iuP/pub I will also paste it in here as well but it might not format as nicely and the images will not be included: General instructions to setup Mario Kart Double Dash Lan Play on one computer (created by u/rbrothers, related post https://www.reddit.com/r/MarioKartDouble...ario_kart/) 1. Install Dolphin https://dolphin-emu.org/download/?ref=btn Create an empty file called portable.txt in the downloaded folder. This makes dolphin create the config files in the same folder 2. Launch dolphin, setup all game libraries and controller config. go to settings>gamecube and select Broadband adapter (TAP) in SP1 3. Close dolphin, After you run dolphin for the first time a new folder User will be genera 4. Go to User/Config/Dolphin.ini Add the following 2 lines: [Core] BBA_MAC = 00:00:00:00:00:00 For each unique instance you will change the BBA_MAC to a unique number Make as many copies of the Dolphin folder as you want running instances 5. You will want to make the copies once all your controllers are configured and settings are configured how you want them, otherwise you need to set it up for each instance. The only thing you need to change is give each instance a unique BBA_MAC number in the User/Config/Dolphin.ini file NOTE: The next two steps are for the network configuration part so the dolphin instances can talk to each other, OpenVPN and TAP are what is required. 6. Install OpenVPN for windows https://openvpn.net/client/client-connec...r-windows/ 7. Install TAP for windows https://build.openvpn.net/downloads/releases/latest/ NOTE: make sure for each unique dolphin instance, go to the Dolphin.ini folder and set the BBA_MAC to a unique number, step 4 8. create a new TAP instance for each additional dolphin instance you will have 9. Open windows networking page NOTE: You need to do this next part with all dolphin instances closed You should now see TAP-Windows Adapters for each dolphin instance you want to open because you added a tap instance in the step above 10. bridge the connections that say TAP Windows Adapter V9, The bridge will be created and will need to have all TAPs listed in the properties you might have to create the bridge with one and then add each instance of TAP to the bridge in the bridge properties by clicking the checkbox 11. When you launch MCDD it should auto connect to one of the TAP instances and since they are bridged together it sees them as the same network (NOTE: if you dont see Lan Mode as an option, make sure to set Broadband Adapter TAP in the SP1 setting in the Dolphin settings>gamecube, step 2 ) Now when you launch lan game for both the Dolphin instances they should find each other after a few seconds (seems like it takes around 10-30 seconds for me) Once you hit start it will be ready to go and play |
