Yes but there are no low end HD 7000 series cards. Only 6000 cards rebranded by OEMs.

rokclimb15 Wrote:Best bet might be a ~$40 card that works well until 4.0+ when hopefully the higher end 6 and 7000 series come down in price.

The chances of that happening are slim to none. Historically these cards tend to get replaced before the price comes down. And that won't be happening for a long time. Not to mention the HD 8000 cards will most likely be rebranded 6000/7000 cards with the exception of slight boosts to the high end models.

And he winds up with a slower card if you're wrong.

Based in the things I have read here:

All this means that all I have is a shitty "rebranded" AMD HD Radeon GPU?????

(I ask this since my laptop is "supposed" to have a Radeon HD 8250 GPU... and NaturalViolence has just said that they are still not released...) Huh Confused Tongue

You have an IGP. The GPU is essentially a very low end 7000 series (GCN) architecture. It's an ultra mobile temash apu designed to be extremely cheap and energy efficient. Technically speaking you are right. These are the first HD 8000 GPUs to release. But they are not "cards" so I stand by my statement.

We don't use many D3D11 features, so a D3D10 GPU should be fine. But don't waste your money for a D3D9 GPU ;-)

In fact, zcomploc is the only feature I know which needs D3D11 atm...

@rokclimb15: The nvidia 200 gpus are D3D10 GPUs, so they should be fine. But there is a known performance issue with this kind of GPUs on linux :-)

Well MSAA needs d3d10.1. And there aren't many d3d10.1 cards so for all intents and purposes it's safer to just say it needs d3d11 hardware.

Since I previously had a GTX 260 I will confirm that they have performance issues with dolphins openGL backend in general, not just on linux. It's painfully slow on windows as well.

Cut me some slack I'm running on 3 hours of sleep here. Fixed.

Interesting. What backend should be run to avoid this kind of issue on Windows (if any)?

@OP: I stand by my original recommendation based on the inferred constraints. I also think that Venomx1 has a good suggestion. These assume that current edition Dolphin performance is your goal, and that $40-$60 is your price range. If you intend to use it to play other PC games and/or have more budget, the 6000 series cards are more performant and have better power consumption. In any case, look for a card with better memory bandwidth than your original candidate.
