Using AMD 5850 with the latest drivers (14.501.1003-141120a-177998C), and with dolphin build 4.0-4922 and a new one that i've downloaded last night 4.0-5631, both have the same issue. I can run a game fine with opengl and direct3d, can go a full 3 hour gaming session without issues, at x2 native and more, and if i use direct3d i can also set AA in all options and the game will still run fine (albeit a bit slower, obviously).
But with opengl, if I set any AA on, the game will start, and for most games I can even get to the main menu, but the moment something 3d is supposed to show up, I get a black screen, then an alert that the "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" (out of the 4 times I did this, three times I got this alert, and once I got a bsod).
Why does this happen? This does not occur with older versions I have of dolphin (in 3.5 for example i can set aa on opengl just fine).

A quick question: are you setting the AA through Dolphin, or through the AMD CCC? Because it should only be set through Dolphin, as driver forcing messes things up.

Have you tried uninstalling you drivers and reinstalling?

AMD cards are usually faster on D3D anyways.

It's through dolphin of course,
I haven't tried reinstalling the drivers, but i guess i can give it a shot...

edit: that's a no go on the reinstall. still crashes.

Hey I am having the same issue, with Metroid Prime, at first I thought it was my graphic card but it seems it isn't.

You say it doesn't happen with AA disabled? I'll have to check it out, because I HAVE been getting the same "display driver" error with Opengl and x2 AA enabled

Uh, I guess this isn't technically necroposting, but for future reference it's preferred that you make your own thread.

Your profile says you are running 4.0 x64? That build is outdated, try updating to the latest dev version on the "Downloads" page of the Dolphin site.

Yeah that's what it says because I just put it there to be able to register, but I've been running the last dev version.

Today I tested it with opengl and no AA and it never crashed. So I gues it's the Opengl + AA thing thats acting up somehow . Which is weird

Also been playing other graphically demanding pc games with no problems at all

Hm
