Dang... I really didn't want to have to switch both motherboard and cpu to play these games...

I might just stick to the Wii u for playing the old zeldas, the resolution isn't horrible on my 50"... Or maybe I'll just build a "New" rig for myself and throw my older stuff in a case to replace the fiancé's crappy dell

I think I'm just going to get the 3570. I won't need to upgrade that for awhile and people have been successfully using it for awhile, that's all I need for now: a proven track record.

The reason for the cheap and easy option is that the turbo just blew on my tdi jetta, so that repair bill isn't going to be fun...

Dangit, that packaged deal is looking more and more tempting everytime I glance at it! it's $90 and offers (apparently) the best dolphin performance on the market. at least from what i've read

good to know. So you think the G3258 will be enough, it's apparently really easy to overclock too and i have a pretty good cooler.

It can overclock pretty well even on the standard cooler that comes with it

The Intel stock cooler is designed to be enough to cool an 85W CPU. When you overclock an 85W CPU you're going to therefore need a bigger cooler than Intel provide. The Pentium's only 53W at stock, so there's quite a lot of headroom before it hits the maximum the Intel cooler's designed for.
OS: Windows 10 64 bit Professional
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5900X
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Radeon Vega 56

now to start the process of switching mobo and CPU...

3570K. If it's the "K" version it isn't a bad choice.

Zelda TP will slow down only in Hyrule Field and in a few other parts of the game.

And most games will work just fine. What other games have you been planning to play?

The 3570K should be fine for TP when overclocked with the patch. I haven't played it in its entirety yet, but running around in Hyrule Field with an end-game save game I pretty much had a locked 30FPS on my 2500K.
