Turn on v-sync, hide mouse cursor, and use fullscreen. I generally prefer to leave aspect ratio on auto (since I don't like stretching), but that's personal preference so that's up to you.

I like my screen to not have any black spaces. 01-03-2012, 04:47 AM
Odd, v-sync should not affect performance for most games/systems. It certainly should not be causing "black spaces". I experience neither of those problems, but I do get microstuttering and/or screen tearing if I leave it off.

V-sync always causes framerate dips for me, so I accept the screen tearing. WTH is microstuttering? 01-03-2012, 05:48 AM

.....not really. Microstuttering has nothing to do with fps. Microstuttering is caused when some frames are on the screen much longer than others. Technically all games have microstuttering, the real questions are "how much?" and "is it noticeable?".

Microstuttering != low framerate
You can have severe microstuttering at ANY framerate, low or high.
