Is there a global option somewhere for "Speed Up Disk Access"? I just moved all of my Wii games on to a new SSD, and could no longer play Donkey Kong Country Returns. The game would hang either when showing the game warning screen, or somewhere in the title screen, with the sound getting scratchy and eventually seizing up, making me have to force close the game (but the emulator still responds fine, meaning only the emulation of the game is messed up). I poked through the settings, and narrowed it down to "Speed Up Disk Access" in the game properties. With it turned off, the game once again runs as it should. I haven't tried many of my games since installing the SSD (only been about a week), so I don't know if other games will be affected by it being too fast. Who knew faster isn't always better? :p

No, this hasn't been added as a global option since (as you have noticed) enabling it can mess up games. So it's disabled for all games you haven't manually enabled it for.

Prior to that all options were checked with the "square" for default. Is it possible that the option existed in an older version of Dolphin and has carried over in my config to the newest versions? 12-01-2020, 04:38 AM

Seems I already had the game on my original SSD, so that wasn't the issue. I just also tested out with an older version of Dolphin and the issue is still present (it is using the same config file from the My Documents folder though). The other difference between when I previously played when it worked fine and now is that I upgraded my video card. I used to have an AMD RX 560, now I have an Nvidia RTX 2060 Super. It seems like by default, it is turning the option on rather than off, as the game only works with it forced off. 12-01-2020, 05:19 AM

I'll continue fiddling around with it. It seems there's something else going on. Toggling out of full screen sent the game into its locking up phase again. I'm currently using Vulkan renderer. Switching to OpenGL made the game not even get past a black screen. I have a ton of other games I will test out, and if I figure something out will post a new thread. |
