Understanding the original eyes are not realistic, neither of the screenshot eyes mimic the cross-eyed effect of the original. Even if that's a bit too much, the intro Mario head shows more of what I'd like to see.


That said, I prefer the "Alternate Eye" of those two.

Mario is always on drugs due to those mushrooms he consumes so I prefer v1.5, which is closer to the original graphics, in my opinion. I voted on your survey and it looks like the 4 votes so far are split right down the middle.

Somehow I feel if I would cast my vote it would influence any further results.

But I can tell you my preference for sure after I ended the survey. . I can already tell you my preference always goes out to textures which mimic the original style (or at least how the developers would have intended it if they had to hardware to do it) suitable for 4K.

Nevertheless, for those worried about the losing textures, I will still include them in the main texture pack. I likely have to rework the Alternative textures structure similarly I did with the Zelda 64 HD Texture Pack. Preferences are there to have, so anyone should feel free to pick the style they want.

I started this survey since I heard way toooooo many times Mario looked like he was on drugs, especially after the trailer video I made for the texture pack. The eyes have been tweaked since, but still... Sooooo... I really want to know they are so unbearable to watch at as the rumors suggest. Perhaps I didn't make a new promotion video with the reworked eyes (thanks Razius!) and everyone still thinks the original HD eyes are still part of the texture pack.

I'm with you there. The texture packs I like best are those that respect the original style and intent of the game but enhance them for high definition graphics. We have plenty of good examples here in the forum. One particular exception is the MKW pack by Moukrea whose interface tweaks I actually prefer to the original bland graphics and currently use.

Agree with this.

The alternative is definitely an improvement over the old video, but most people are so used to how he looks without custom textures that the difference stands out immediately (I think it's the positioning). It isn't a bad texture by any means, eyes are just tricky assets to deal with.

Oh.. survey.. Things getting bigger. I just want to share what I edited.

With my friend's advice, I adjusted ratio of iris slightly. I think it's more natural than before. If you prefer alternative eyes, use this.

And I didn't make this texture from the scratch. As I wrote first, I made this by modifying CDAMJC's SMG texures. And CDAMJC's textures are HD enhanced version of original SMG texture.
So basically, this alternative eye textures are more like mario's eyes we know today, not original SM64 eyes.

Ohh sorry. I didn't mean to imply anything with the survey. I am including your altered textures regardless. I add credit too CDAMJC as well then (I guess I forgot that), but since you modified it in the state it is today you deserve the highlight of the credits for it. It only feels fair to me that you receive the highlight.

I just started the survey purely out of own interest. Normally I don't run surveys on new textures but I have been hearing over and over all the time that Mario eyes were too horrific too look at or that he was on constant drugs, even going so far from removing the eyes from the texture pack. That obviously means I did a poor job on it. So I am specifically interested how big this issue actually this. And as said, your contributions are included regardless, but that will take some time.

If you have any offense with for example the procedure, or even the survey. Please inform me. It is in my best interest to be reasonable and fair to all. Hopefully the survey isn't too bad. Well.. It is free marketing for your contributions .

Nevertheless I am thankful for you taking your time. I have been quite occupied with the Zelda N64 HD texture pack lately.
