Pretty new to this. I got the HD textures working, and they look fantastic btw, but the game looks dark to me. I also don't fully understand the codes aspect of this. Could anyone explain it in a few words? Greatly appreciated.

The game is dark because (all?) N64 games were darker on the Wii VC. There is an AR code to remedy this.
First you need to enable cheats. From the Dolphin menu bar, its Options > Configuration, and under "Basic Settings" check the "Enable Cheats" box. To add an Action Replay code, right click the game in the game list and select properties. From there you will see an "AR Codes" tab. Click the [Add New Code...] button, give the code a name, and paste in the code. Click [Save] and it will be added to the code list. You can now add a check to the box to enable it. To add a Gecko code is a bit more involved. Go to the "Gecko Codes" tab, and click [Edit Config]. A text document will appear, you will need to add a "Gecko" header to it. This only needs to be there once above all other codes. The name of the code will have a dollar sign $, and below that the code. An asterisk * adds a note to the code. For example... Spoiler:
Ahh, thanks Bighead for the help!
Well... Anyway... Depending on your region you need different codes. Let's assume you use the NTSC-U version then you would need this AR Code (not Gecko Code) in order to make the game display similar brightness as on the Nintendo 64: $ Remove Dark Filter (AR Code) 0404AC50 4E800020 But there are a lot of more codes. Check out the main page at the codes section. First check your game region, then check if the code you want to add for that game region is either an AR or Gecko Code. Of course doing so by following Bighead's instructions listed above. On a side note, I have not forgotten about a DDS BC7 update for this texture pack. But first things first: Mario Kart 64 V0.2 and an internet fiber connection. The same goes for my other projects. I can't give any time windows, but hopefully it will be all done before the end of 2017. 08-15-2017, 12:47 PM

Hey all,
I'm having a problem getting Gecko wide screen 16:9 code to work properly. I've confirmed that enable cheats is on, other games like Mario Kart double dash WR Gecko code work fine, but for Mario 64, I can't get it working. I've tried with and without the HD textures installed, with no other codes enabled, made sure built in "widescreen hack" is not enabled, and made sure I'm using the NTSC-U code for my USA .wad file. No matter what I try, it's always stuck on 4:3 ratio. Per Dolphin, I've confirmed this is the USA version. I see, Game ID: NAAE01, Country: USA. For aspect ratio, Dolphin is set to Auto. Within the "show defaults" for N.ini I see: Code: # Nxxxxx - All Nintendo 64 Virtual Console games Here's a copy paste from my NAAE01.ini Code: $Widescreen Aspect Ratio Fix for 16:9 (Gecko Code) Here's what it looks like. On my actual 16:9 monitor, there's additional vertical black bars on the left and right (not seen in screenshot). 09-04-2017, 03:47 AM
disable all other codes and set the aspect ratio in graphics settings

Using Dolphin 5.0-5328 Also, I tested a Gecko code for NBA JAM which is also a Wii game, and that DID work fine. Check mark on, and code worked in the game. So, my issue seems to be specific to this game. Code: [Video_Settings] Now the screen stretches to fill (with some black borders on top and bottom), but still the HUD is cut off. I then disabled all codes include the WR fix, and it looks exactly the same. So something weird is going on with these Gecko codes, it doesn't seem to register at all, doesn't matter if check marked or not. 09-04-2017, 07:35 AM
you are probably copying the wrong widescreen gecko code in. also disable the suggested aspect ratio bullshit

Full NAAE01.ini below (right now I have the things I want enabled, I've tried disabling everything but the WR code, but nothing changes): Code: [Video_Settings] 09-04-2017, 08:00 AM
