Getting the Wii U Gamecube adapter working on Dolphin for Wii titles

Ok, so here's my issue. I have no problem using my gamecube controller adapter working for gamecube titles using direct connect. However, I seem to be unable to use the adapter for Wii titles. I launch the game, and then I'm just stuck on the splash screen explaining that you need to cinch down the wrist strap for the Wiimote. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong or how to fix it?
