it is, but there are no attemps at the moment.
nearly everyone thinks that all software can work good on a quadcore, or even more core, cpu.
Just look here in the forums : daily request for quadcore support from people not realizing that its just not possible.
but all want quadcores.
So why should intel/amd work for higher per core performance ?
- its much harder to achieve then add additional cores
- its more power consuming
- people prefer more cores.
if you create a survey and ask if someone prefers 4*3ghz or 2*4ghz, most will think that 12 is better then 8, but it does not work that way.
to not reveal that, intel and amd dont clock their dualcores higher then their quadcores. this way the quadcore always CAN be faster, but more important, it is never slower.
this is the main reason why we dont got fast cpus these days.
4ghz on a core 2 duo are possible for intel to sell, but it would destroy their other prices.
