Problem is that both of those share a heatsink, so thermal throttling can occur. A better one would be: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/ (the first one for $999)

That's why there are 2 cooling upgrade options to prevent overheating . Lenovo quality is not good and that Lenovo notebook has throttling issues . Just ask @Anti-Ultimate for it

All that does is just change the pipes to copper, and while that may help a bit, it won't solve the underlying issue of the heatpipes being connected.

My friend has that model, and has no issues with thermal throttling. Maybe just the luck of the draw?

pls not. I don't even have that thing anymore. I returned it after I figured out that the display was the worst one I ever had and the cooling broke in just 3 days.
And yes, it throttles if it goes over 65°C, for reasons unknown to me. Temps are still fine when I used Throttlestop.

Quality control is even worse than MSI here.

If you want a decent laptop that has good quality, you need to go a little bit over 1000$. Gaming laptop and under 1000$ don't really fit together. Most of the time, anything that claims to be a gaming laptop for 1000$ has bad cooling, bad factory applied thermal paste, and the build quality is meh (as in, if it's broken don't open it as the screws will just get striped and you will lose your waranty).

I bought this and it has been working great for college and gaming.

i7 4720 and 960m. Beautiful chassis. Runs cool. Runs everything I throw at it, dolphin included. With the 100$ rebate you can add a 128gb ssd, I also upgraded RAM to dual channel. All in all, it cost me $970.
