Gecko Questions for Dolphin

Hey everyone, super newbie here! :)

I just have a few questions regarding using Gecko with Dolphin, for Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. I've been searching around for days now, and I haven't been able to figure this out, so if anyone could lend a helping hand, that'd be great :)

Uhh...okay, so, before I ask my questions, I would just like to point out that I have done several hours worth of research, and I've learned quite a lot about running Gecko on dolphin, and while I'm certainly no professional, I've taught myself hex, and have a somewhat general understanding of the values (very basic.) Basically what I'm trying to get at here is, umm...I'm not a complete idiot (some parts are missing,) and I'm not looking for anyone to hold my hand either. I can do whatever needs to be done, I just could use a prod in the right direction.

Okay, my first question has to do with skills. I'm on chapter 1-1, and I've been spending a lot of time trying to get familiarized with using Gecko on dolphin. So far, I've been able to get Nolan's codes to work (for the most part.) After inputting the necessary offsets for the codes on Dolphin, I can get the 99 exp code to work for Nolan just fine. However, when I try to edit his skills, the game will freeze when I look at his skills menu. I'm not sure why this is, but do skills need to be offset a certain amount as well? I mean, I know that character codes have the +B880 offset, but do skills count as items or something, in which case they need to be offset by -264B80? Basically, if I could figure out how to add the proper skills to him, that'd be great.

My next question has to do with class modifiers. I tried changing his class to Reaver, and when I went to see if it worked or not, his stats were completely messed up. He ended up having 29/0 HP, 19 Str, 0 Mag, 0 Skl (maxed out btw) 77 Spd, (also maxed out btw,) 0 Lck (Maxed out) 35 Def, and 0 Res (Maxed out.) Finally, where his class name should be (Reaver) there was a "(" symbol instead. The description also just has (what looks to me) to be a Japanese symbol. So...yeah, if anyone could tell me what the hell went wrong there, that'd be great, because I haven't got a clue lol.

Next, I would like to mention that the character specific codes for other characters doesn't seem to work at all. For example, if I try to give Micaiah or Edward 99 exp, the individual codes won't work for them, (unless I use the cheat where everyone has 99 exp, in which case they will.) This code seems to work for Nolan only, even though I gave Edward and Micaiah +B880 to their lines. Same thing goes for other individual codes, such as items in slot 1, or weapon level codes; they'll work for Nolan, but not for Edward or Micaiah. If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, that'd be great.

I've used codes for FE7 on my GBA emu, and there weren't character specific codes, only slots, so it confuses me that there are actually character specific codes for RD instead of slots. It seems to me that I have the right slot for Nolan, (which I believe I read somewhere that he's always the first slot or something anyways,) but I don't know by how much I'd have to offset it by to get to the next slot, for another character. I would also like to say that I tried using the stat modifier codes for the Fighter class, (to see if they'd work on Nolan,) they didn't, so I was wondering if stat modifiers counted as character codes and needed to be offset by +B880 or if they were something altogether different. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, I would like to add that I do know how to get Dolphin to run in debug mode, and I've looked at the memory viewer. I know how to go about changing the values in the memory viewer, the problem is, I don't know what exactly I'm supposed to look for when I use it. I understand that if needed, I could go into the memory viewer and find the certain values, subtract the gecko codes from it, and that'd be the offset I'd need to make codes work, but is there something specific I've got to be looking for in order to do this? Thanks for taking the time to read this, and if any of you could help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated :D

Tl;dr

Is there a specific offset needed to apply skills to characters?

Is there another offset needed to change a character's class?

If I can get one characters codes to work (Nolan's,) then is there a way to where I can offset his code by a certain amount to edit another character's values? (Such as Edward and Micaiah's?)

Once again, any help would be tremendously appreciated.

So some people have reported the established codes not working in Dolphin, myself included. The thread about Dolphin needing offsets is old, and I think Dolphin has now changed the way it uses Gecko to now not need it. Anyhow, I made these, and they work for me:

These are all Action Replay, not Gecko, I don't know what the difference is. You may find looking through the memory useful, using "Dolphin.exe /d" at the command prompt - there is also a Cheat Search function (Tools -> Cheats Manager -> Cheat Search), allowing you to compare memory before and after doing something, so try scanning the memory, doing something (spending gold in the shop for example) and scan again looking for things that are Not Equal, and see which memory addresses changed in that time - try it multiple times to get it narrowed down. Then you can use AR codes to set the memory to the value you want (e.g. amount of gold you have). I haven't done any changing of character classes yet. The problem you are going to run into is that a lot of characters have slightly different positions in the memory depending on whether you missed recruiting any characters. The first like 7 characters are pretty set but getting Aran or not getting him seems to be the first possible difference - it may also change depending on reinforcements and how many enemies you kill before recruiting different characters? I don't really know, I haven't experimented much. Clearly characters are placed in slots, not in a specific place.

Edit: Oh man, wall of text, missed that last paragraph, you know how the memory viewer works xP

Edit2: Actually, thinking about it there are indeed the "default" classes there in the code - I found them by looking for the skills they start with, sometimes Critical +5 or whatever - and adding skills to them seems to give those skills to any enemy of that class and any new player character of that class too (and anyone who promotes to that class).

Oh hey, thanks for the response, I really appreciate it Smile

Actually, I've been able to get just about everything to work for the most part. By using the Cheat Search function of Dolphin, I've been able to find and isolate specific values for characters. As you stated earlier; by this point, everyone should know that dolphin codes need to be offset by a certain amount. The current offsets are, items need to be offset by -264B80, and Character values need to be offset by +B880. Now while I haven't had any problems at all with item codes, I have noticed that some characters need to be offset by a different amount. For example, Nolan's codes all work for me after I added +B880 to them, but Micaiah's offset ended up being +A8C0, and Mia's was +DBF0. Weird, but oh well, at least they work anyways.

My biggest issue right now is, I can't apply skills directly to a character's slot. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. An example is, I'll activate Mia's Skill Modifier, and she'll end up having no skills on her (not even shove or astra,) so I know I got the right codes for each skill line, because it does take away all skills when I make each value 00000000.

My problem is, if I put Vantage on her first skill line, for some reason she'll end up with Crit+20 and no other skill on any lines, even though she had a full list of skills on her before activating cheat. This goes with other characters too, i.e. I give them Crit+20 for their first line, and they somehow end up with something random like Wildheart or something, which I just don't understand at all. Basically, what I'd like to know is, do the skills themselves need to be offset by a certain amount? Because I seem to me missing something here, and I can't figure out what it is.

Also, I would just like to point out, I know how to narrow down searches and find stuff pertaining to characters using Dolphin's cheat search, but I have no clue how to use the memory viewer of dolphin. I know how to get into debug mode and activate the mem viewer, but everytime I fire up Radiant Dawn, I type in the search box for a character value, and it says that nothing could be found. So yeah, I don't know what I'm doing wrong there either :/ If anyone could help me figure out how to get skills directly onto slots of characters, please let me know, because I've tried everything ><
