After doing a lot of reading trying to decide whether to convert my Wii dumps to GCZ files, I found someone saying that although compression of Wii discs to GCZ files is lossy (which had worried me), the compressor works merely by ignoring all data beyond the end of the partition.
Is that true?
If so, then am I safe in permanently converting all my dumped Wii discs to GCZ files for space-saving reasons?
That is, has anyone ever heard of a Wii GCZ file not working correctly? Or do they always . . . just work?
I should note, too, that for space-saving reasons is a necessity for me. It’s not a matter of not being able to buy more HDD space. I run a good deal of HDD space already (9 TB not including full duplication), but I’ve used up all six SATA plugs on my motherboard (I’ve already had to unplug my ODD and switch to my RAWdump USB drive to make space for another HDD) and have about 1 TB left before actually running out of space. So I’m looking now to start saving space in what ways I can, and from a trial run converting to GCZ, it will save me a lot of space.
