I don't have knowledge about emulators but I was playing WW on Dolphin for the first time and everything worked but now when I play it won't let me press start to move forward from the home screen. A few things I found out as I played Dolphin many moons ago. Make sure your controller is plugged into your PC before you start Dolphin. Otherwise it may not register properly. Also ensure your controller is setup before playing. You can do this by clicking the Controller button in the upper toolbar of Dolphin. I am at work not so I cannot produce a screenshot but I am sure you can find it

Skip to the bottom for tldr, read if you want to give me more information due to my hardware or other tips specifically for my setup. ( )
Ok, let me begin by saying I've been using Dolphin for a long time, so I know my way around the program rather well, I'm looking for new information though. I upgraded my PC about a couple years ago (CPU+RAM+MOBO) to a Phenom II x4 955 BE 3.2GHz (Stock), 2x 2GB G.Skill 1333 Mhz 9-9-9 (Usually kept stock, I adjust on the fly through a reboot if i need to. ), and an ASUS Crosshair III Formula. These components actually seem to play rather well together for air overclocking, plenty of space and seemingly decent heatsinks on the motherboard itself, sleight the one with the ROG LED crap I removed. Well, this all was fine on older builds with wind waker for me, minus the occasional black screen happening when entering or exiting certain areas, and the heat effect not displaying correctly. I successfully played most of the way through the game. Here's my problem, I was at that time still using an older 8800 nvidia card, and now have an amd gpu (7770 1gb GHZ Edition). It all performs really well with the PC games I own like Battlefield 3, NFS: Most Wanted (Both, maxed), Mirror's Edge, Tomb Raider (SE), FFXIV, CoD:Ghosts (yea it actually runs rather well with medium - high settings, just long load times) and such, but with these newer builds of Dolphin+Wind Waker+AMD GPU= Not working worth crap. I had been using 3.0 up until now for other games, but wind waker still gives me more grief than any game in my collection... Tales of Symphonia works flawless in comparison, and it really runs rather great aside from the occasional frame dip in battles btw so kudos team, but wind waker seems to always give me a black screen anymore before i even see outset. Sometimes its when i hit start, sometimes its when i load a save, sometimes after the intro. in the end I end up resetting like 20 times to get into the game and save. tldr I've been using every amd gpu driver as its been released with no changes. Im currently using the latest beta drivers. Dolphin 4.0.1 (i also tried one the other day from the svn that said stackfix or something) I'm using the default game config, except I have made two changes. I checked HLE emulation, and cleared ZTP hack. I'm sure this information is in this thread already somewhere, but what exactly is the best build for playing wind waker, and are there any builds that support the heating effects in wind waker and/or tales? More worried about WW. pretty happy with tales atm. Thanks in advance. 12-17-2013, 07:20 PM
The random black screen is the result of changing the setting to HLE emulation. Possibly try switching the audio backend to OpenAL, but it's doubtful that will solve the black screen problem.

I can switch it to LLE but it's just going to do the same thing (and yes I uncheck the one in the game properties thinger), and I'll come back reporting it. So I'll save some time and say I just tried it and it still does it. My dump is verified. I guess I could attach Olly...? In any case, I tested 4.0.2 this morning after posting and it doesn't seem to do the black screening before I am in game as much, but the video dips in fps every minute or so for a split second. I'm using the DX11 backend, are their any suggestions? I know my pc should be easily capable of running this game when my old cpu n stuff did about 20-30 fps depending on where i was in game... 12-18-2013, 01:02 PM

Limit by fps is off too yes. D.C.: E I.S.: E CH: D Framelimit: Auto By FPS: D JIT I think my problem was Cache Display Lists. Seems to be working ok for now on 4.0.2 stable release with it disabled. I use to use that option in GFX Options alot though, idk. 01-02-2014, 04:37 AM
So for the most part, WindWaker runs fine, however, I have a problem with graphic glitches, however most of them are known issues
Here are the problems I have Directx11 Mode : Game runes fine and looks perfect, Double Fire Effect happends, Cant use custom texture to fix it, Pictobox works Directx9 Mode, Game runs a little choppy, Drops 3-5 fps randomly and skips whenever I do a 360, Can use custom textures and fix all video related issue, Performance is bad, Pictobox works Open GL, Best Quality/Zero framedrops with max AA, Custom textures work like a dream, However, Game crashes with Pictobox use, Hard lockup with audio loop. I have a GTX 760 and a 2500k @ 4.0GHZ I use the offical 4.0.2 Dolphin from their website. So here is my question. Can I fix the double fire effect on DX11, Fix the Pictobox crashing on OPENGL, or fix the stuttering on DX9? Processor/CPU:Intel i5 2500k @ 4.0Ghz Video Card:Nvidia 760 GTX 01-02-2014, 05:43 AM
OpenGL Crash: Erazer, get screenshots, crash logs, a savefile, and post an issue report for this! That's the best chance of getting the bug fixed!
Also test latest master to make sure the issue is still having problems. |
