it gets extremely choppy and slow with LLE
Operating system: Mac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow leopard)
Processor/CPU: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Video Card/GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 320M Memory/RAM: 4Gb Dolphin Revision: 3.0-766 02-20-2012, 09:16 PM
LLE is very demanding on the CPU.
An overclocked CPU is needed. Recommended is a Intel Core i5-2500k/i7-2600k with 4GHz or more. 02-21-2012, 06:40 AM
that makes sense i guess; i only have 2.4 GHz, though it is dual core

4.0 GHz!?!?! I have the i7 2700K but I have it run at stock 3.5 GHz. I did not think that Dolphin was THIS power hungry!!!

Dolphin is an emulator we have discussions like this almost every day
And the very demanding Games, like Super Mario Galaxy, need more than 4 Ghz. 02-22-2012, 07:11 AM
The only Wii games I'm interested in playing are MegaMan 9 and 10, I want to play just the Gamecube games with Dolphin. So are you saying I am screwed if I want to use the better, more accurate sound core?

So are you saying I am screwed if I want to use the better, more accurate sound core? No, not every game is demanding enough to require a Sandy Bridge chip OC'ed at 4GHz+ with LLE. Games like SSBM require LLE to stop looping audio issues, but I can run that game with LLE on thread with my current specs, full-speed, no hiccups. Games like Tales of Symphonia and Skies of Arcadia require LLE to get the audio to be anything close to functional. ToS runs pretty well now, only drops to 50 FPS on one specific attack (Collete's Angel Feather), the rest runs fine for me. Been testing Skies of Arcadia too, full-speed so far. DefenderX was talking about heavy hitting games. The Super Mario Galaxy games, Metroid Trilogy, and even F-Zero GX would all probably need 4GHz+ to do those games with LLE. Most other GCN games are fine with the right Dolphin build (I optimized my build for advanced instruction sets, hence it's "dirty") and the right settings with your hardware. 02-22-2012, 10:05 AM
so is 2.4 GHz just too slow for any sort of LLE?

Oh ok then. Yeah, like I said, I only want to play MM 9 and 10 for Wii. My parents bought me a Wii a few years ago and I don't want it to go to waste.
I also read in one of the changelogs that LLE got a speed boost or something getting rid of this thing called a busy wait flag or something to that effect. I would think that LOZ WW and TP would be the most power consuming games that I want to play, so hopefully I can use LLE audio without any problems. Oh and I don't plan to use Dolphin's graphic enhancer abilities at all. I just want the games to look like they should. |
