@Kamui33: try to use an AX-HLE build. Here http://dolphin-emu.org/download/branches/

Actually, the sound has been working fine since 3.0-809 with HLE. Any revision after that on the master branch should run it without issues.

Not sure if it's placebo or not, but I think new-ax-hle sounds better though. Effects like echo and reverb used in that game are now emulated, volume changes are less brutal, there are less missing notes, etc.

Haven't tried that branch yet, but I guessed as much that you'd added proper emulation for a lot more things. I'm just saying the audio's no longer "crappy" in master branch builds like it used to be. Even though I can hear what's missing in master, it's infinitely more bearable than it was before. Btw, keep up the great work, really appreciate the comprehensive blog post you made about the AX ucode Big Grin

Amazing work delroth. Unfortunately I can't get it to work on my end.
Tried using the latest Dolphin version, with your instructions and the NTSC version of Tales of Symphonia.

Quote:Maybe it has to do where you are standing, since game is still rendered when you enter the menu.
I still havent played this game, I just tried in first town and tried in world map outside first town. Same results ( 100 fps )
Could you try in those areas ?
Sorry it took a while to reply to this, but no, that can't be it.
The game handles its gamestates pretty well, and takes a screenshot of the scene before you enter the menu to use it as the background.
Therefore the only thing that gets rendered is the menu, and the background. Not the gameplaystate.
There's just something really wrong with the AMD drivers I suppose...

How is the performance on your end Delroth? Are you also experiencing slowdowns in menus?

You really need to check out ax hle branch...sound is far from fine on master Smile
On new branch its perfect..I would even say its better then LLE ( is this even posible ? It seems that it is )
In first town in ToS there are few notes that constantly repeat...these notes are almost not at all audible with LLE, while they are clearly audible in new AX HLE branch Smile
I checked on real hardware and new HLE is more accurate then LLE, atleast regarding that track...havent tested more.

Garteal, are you getting these slowdown even with HLE ? I am getting 395 fps with HLE Smile
Here are two screenshoots, one LLE, other HLE :

Thanks for the screenshots.

Yes sadly. It even drops with HLE, which confirms it's an issue with either the AMD drivers, or my specific GPU.
The FPS difference isn't that huge. Both drop to 30-40~ish FPS when opening a topic in the Synopsis.
I need some AMD GPU users to test this to verify where the issue lies.

If you open the topic, does your FPS drop, or does it stay the same?

Yeah, it drops a lot, but still nowhere near 60 fps Smile
This is HLE :

I can honestly say, I can't hear what you're talking about. Just tried it at Iselia with HLE on 3.0-809; I didn't hear any notes repeating. Perhaps all of the notes are every so slightly slower than they should be, but other than that, master branch builds sound fine to me.

Perhaps it's something to do with the audio backends? All of the Windows backends are different from the Linux ones, so it's not like I can just test it right away. Didn't you still have sound issues with master branch builds with SoA? I've been playing that game for quite a while now, and it's very comparable to LLE audio with only an audible "pop" here and there, not even once every 30 minutes.

No, you misunderstood me Smile
I was talking about latest new ax hle-not about master branch. You are right, these notes are not audible in master, ( same as with LLE ) plus there are other issues.
Like I said, you really should check out new hle branch...thats what I was comparing against LLE.

I have missing notes completely in SOA, also some notes dont play properly ( too long )
All is fixed with new ax hle...there is no reason for you to use master branch when playing SOA or ToS Smile

Definitely a substantial performance drop in the menus (Intel HD3000 on Linux).
