Dang! That worked for a little while. Finally got to play a little bit for once, but then I got the same error message about halfway into the first stage. It figures that 2 of the best games on the GameCube also have to be the most difficult to emulate. Hopefully over time and later versions of Dolphin they'll work better. Thanks for your suggestion

Awesome work devs.
Anyone wanna netplay, if we can? https://youtu.be/YjTghRZsCq4 <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YjTghRZsCq4" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

So last week I put together a (mostly) new PC with a brand new Ryzen 5600x CPU. I've been waiting for this as these are the first CPUs that can beat Intel's IPC. I was fully expecting to be able to stream this game at 1080p at 60fps, as IceStrike set the standard with his OC'ed Intel 7700K system. However, imagine my dismay when I still couldn't reach IceStrike's level of performance. For example, when I play the opening scene of Revenge of the Empire when you have to destroy the 6 transports, fps ranges from 45-60fps with some audio stutter. When I play Defiance on Dantooine, the first speeder bike scene mostly stays around 55-60fps, except that it will freeeze for half a second in the same couple of spots everytime I play through it. The rest of the stage hovers around 45-55fps with audio stutters. I can get it to run better by underclocking the emulated GC CPU to 80%, but that's not the point given that IceStrike claims he didn't have to do that, and that he was even able to run the game full-speed using only one core.
I tried everything:

Eureka!! I figured it out. Apparently, Dolphin doesn't get along well with multiple versions running on the same system. Last night I learned about making a Dolphin session portable by placing a blank "portable.txt" file in Dolphin's main program folder. So I set this up with 5.0-8684 (same version that IceStrike used), and pretty much left everything at their defaults, except that I forced LLE audio and enabled Speed Up Disc Transfer Rate.
After playing through the first stage a couple of times to cache my shaders, I was just a few fps off from IceStrike's performance. I then re-watched the beginning of one of his videos, and determined that he was overclocking his emulator's CPU, (the gameplay preview videos on his Mission Select screen were playing back faster than normal). So I bumped up my clock to 125%, and I now get a perfect 60fps while playing the opening scene of Revenge of the Empire! Woo-hoo! 11-20-2020, 10:14 PM

I did exactly this and I still can't reach 30 FPS anywhere in the game with a complete shader cache. Here's my PC build:
- Intel Core i9-10900K - NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super - 64 GB DDR4 memory - Running on an SSD I've tried everything, but the best framerate I can get anywhere in this game is 30 FPS with massive stutters and lag spikes. I also get a pink screen whenever fading effects are supposed to happen. I read in a progress report that Ubershaders fixes this, but no, it doesn't. I've messed witht all the settings and I can't get rid of this pink screen during fade-outs and fade-ins. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the Rogue Squadron games need WAY more attention. They need their own branch of Dolphin that specializes in emulating these games and ONLY these games. I'm perfectly fine with multiple emulator setups if it means I get to play this game upscaled and at full speed. Dolphin devs need to make an exception to the general "no working on a per-game basis" guideline. I predict that every other GameCube title will eventually reach the Perfect category and these games will STILL be unplayable. 11-21-2020, 12:13 AM
Do you have a profile setup in the Nvidia Control Panel to use maximum power on the GPU?
3D Settings > Manage 3D settings > Program Settings > make a profile for Dolphin > set Power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance" 11-23-2020, 09:50 AM

Here's my PC build: Whoops; first I apologize for making a mistake in my previous post about the version of Dolphin I'm using... it's not 5.0-8684, it's actually 4.0-8684. I wish I could update my post, but I can't seem to find an option to edit it. At any rate, I can't get things running smoothly on any version of 5.0, and I think even IceStrike found that to be the case in one of his earlier posts. Try setting up one of the 4.0 installs (as a portable version, of course; see my previous reply). I have green fading screens instead of purple, and after caching shaders the hard way (4.0 doesn't support pre-caching shaders) the experience has been smooth. That shouldn't make any difference; this game is much more CPU-bound than it is GPU-bound. My GTX 1080 Ti (which is less powerful than his RTX 2080 Super) has been running with default power settings with no issues. 11-24-2020, 12:13 AM

The GPU load can seem low to the power management, so it may downclock or something. Forcing it to use high performance when running Dolphin means that the GPU is always giving Dolphin full power, no ramping up/down based on GPU load. This may be helpful when running CPU heavy games, as the GPU may be sitting with a low load and getting hit periodically with requests for a high load. Even if it doesn't magically solve this problem, it's a free performance boost for Dolphin. 11-24-2020, 07:35 AM

Good point; I used to have this problem with certain Windows games (e.g. Forza Horizon 3). When I changed my Power Management Mode in the Nvidia Control Panel from "Optimal" to "Prefer Maximum Performance" or even "Adaptive", the problem went away. 03-13-2021, 03:01 PM
This game is not playable at all even with recommended settings and its status should be changed to ingame. What's the point of a compatibility list that tries to sugorcoat everything? I love Dolphin and it's a great emulator but unplayable games should not be listed as playable.
