What settings did you use ?

If you're already using EFB to Texture, HLE Audio, and Skip EFB Access you'll probably have to underclock.
Seems like turning idle skipping off helps too.

Can someone give me a brief tutorial on how this underclocking works? (at least in RS3's case) I went to the cofig settings-> advanced "enabled" the cpu clocking and turned the bar down below 100 but noticed it became worse.

On variable framerate games like RS3, underclocking makes VFPS go up and FPS go down. If your VFPS isn't hitting 100%, making the audio stuttery and the game laggy, underclocking can sacrifice FPS to boost VFPS.

I often played the game on an underclock of 40-60%.

Alright, I'll give that shot. Thanks.

40-60% underclock helps with the speed but it doesn't make the game smooth to play though, if anything it adds stuttering.
overclocking ones actual cpu to 4.2ghz didn't make any difference.

I noticed with opengl it has some missing textures sometimes. This game can be improved, i am pretty sure of that.

Underclocking won't fix stutters due to shader generation, and this game generates a whole lot of shaders. Unfortunately I don't think there's an easy answer for that one besides just playing and letting it cache them.

I don't think there's more than another ~10-20% to be had on the CPU side for RS2/3. Emulating an MMU in software is much more intensive than any native game.

if that is true, it might be a bit more playable with that extra 10-20%, whatever that works out as (if doable) that is.

not wishing to sound ungrateful, it's great to be able to play them on the pc and in high resolution, just hoping & praying for a tad more speed from this one though.

the idle skip off boosted my fps but speed wasn't increased, bit smoother but have to use underclocking to gain nearly full speed, but the catch is stuttering on the foot missions and stutters / pauses when doing flying missions, doesn't happen all the time but enough to be annoying.

some missions played great, it's the ones with loads of stuff going on like the bunker assault, when the sound goes all crackly you know the speed is dropping.

I'm actually kind of suspicious of the whole idle skip thing at this point; I'm starting to suspect there must be something rather weird going on, since people are reporting dual core not being faster, idle skip making it slower, etc. I think if we figure out what's going on there, there might be a lot more than 10-20% speed boost to be had. The ~10-20% boost comment really only applies to the speed of the actual CPU thread; if it turns out there's synch issues or other factors further slowing things down, there might be more to gain.

Currently I'm busy with work though, so I'm not really available to track this one down, sorry ^^;
