Some levels just won't load at all, I spent a week trying to load one of the levels, and when it finally did load, >1 FPS

I only tried the first level, for me the game works rather well, except if I pause the game or use the targeting computer, it has a rather high chance to crash. I'm rather casual to the Gamecube emulation scene (I mostly play PS1/PS2), but this the first time I admit defeat. Guess I'll have to hook up the gamecube again.

That tells me you were running the game in dual core mode - both hangs are known issues. Try single core - judging by your specs, your system should be able to handle it.

Also, now I can't even get to the first mission, the game crashes right before or after the cutscene. It did that 5 times in a row. 03-27-2023, 11:50 AM
Lucky you, first mission won't even load for me. Once I got the first part of the first mission to load, but it crashed during the transition to the next scene.
The most infuriating thing about this game is that you can't brute-force your way through the crashes. From my testing, it seems that if you make a savestate right before it crashes, it will ALWAYS crash if you load that savestate, no exceptions, meaning you can't just load a savestate repeatedly and hope you eventually make it through. Man, real hardware does all of these transitions and ship switching instantly and with no lag or slowdown, I really hope some kind of progress is made someday, these games deserve it, since unlike the popular games you can run on Dolphin that run perfectly at 8K resolution, these two games were never released on any other system. 04-28-2023, 11:58 AM
Firstly, just want to say thank you to all the Dolphin Devs and other volunteers for such an amazing app. It really is superb and brings a smile to so many people.
Second, like many others, it seems, I am having some issues with trying to run RSII. I have a decent Laptop, connected to an external monitor (i7-11700K, 32GB RAM, Nvidia 3070, 2TB Samsung 990 Pro M.2 NVMe. I have tried both the current beta 5.0-18498 and the latest Dev build as of this post which is 5.0-19314 and the main thing I'm seeing is a crash when the first mission is trying to start. There have been various errors at other points with 'Unknown Pointer Errors' and some other things, but after the titles and then the cut scene approaching the Death Star, the emulation just hangs with no error message of any kind and stays on a black screen. I've tried both NTSC and PAL versions to check if any difference and they both do the same. I have tried many combinations of potential fixes from the previous posts, but nothing seems to stop this, so I wondered whether something else has broken the playability. I am using the latest Nvidia Drivers for my card which are v531.68. If anyone is currently having success with a similar spec system and is happy to share their full settings (every field!) then it would be greatly appreciated. I have noticed that in many posts only a few fields are discussed, which is fine, but I can't be certain that I've done something else that is causing an issue that no one has mentioned because it's assumed that no-one would do that! If a box should be empty, I would like to know that too as the opinions on settings for this game seem to be incredibly varied! TLR - If anyone has got this working on an Intel 11th Gen CPU with an Nvidia 3070 or similar, please can you share your full settings for all config and graphic options!! TIA, and happy to test anything I can to help anyone else out. 04-30-2023, 06:13 AM
Emulator version, PC specs, and settings don't matter. This game will have severe issues that cause constant crashing and freezing until the devs fix it. Better dig out the old GameCube for the next few centuries.

Better dig out the old GameCube for the next few centuries. Luckily I already have that available! I was playing it on my Mac (M2 MacBook Air) a couple of weeks ago and the first level played faultlessly. I have just tested it now and it started ok, then crashed after the towers were destroyed, just before the TIE fighters appear on the level. Now I cannot get the game to start at all, other than seeing the very first title screen before the dancing stormtroopers that now don't appear and instead I get a black screen. When I was playing this a couple of weeks ago on the Mac, I managed a couple of levels fine, so it does feel like some things have changed in the emu. For reference, I was using the latest Dev version today. Really hope the Devs can spend some more time on this particular title, given its uniqueness and the fact it was never replicated elsewhere. I do think it would be good to downgrade its playability level right now as it just doesn't seem to work, regardless of platform or version. If I can help test on Mac/PC, very happy to do so. 05-01-2023, 06:18 PM
I mean hey, you can play Super Mario Sunshine at 10K with an HD texture pack at 300 FPS so priorities are already fine, right? /s
Seriously though, there needs to be two or three people that focus on only this and Rebel Strike. They're the if-a-tech-demo-was-a-game of the GameCube and use the hardware in so many different ways Dolphin can't handle. I bet understanding how this game works would help solve so many other niche and/or long-standing issues elsewhere. |
