I was able to play RS3 at near full FPS on my laptop (which is rather outdated at this point) with EFB2Tex/SkipEFBFromCPU, so I suspect the slowness in RS3 many people are having is actually EFB slowness :<

Hmm, I will have to check my settings because I think I don't have SkipEFBFromCPU checked. Unless you have a magic laptop or miracle file on your machine that makes everything work.
Are you able to find additional optimizations in these RS games that will make them liquid smooth? I can't wait to be able to spam the ground with the Y Wing in HD without any slowdowns.

If I understand correctly, that's exactly where Fiora's overclocking comes in handy (someone needs to bring this to PCSX2 for Shadow of the Colossus )

Yeah, I know it got choppy in the original GC, but I haven't spammed the bombs to see how it does when Fiora's overclocking is enabled.
I will check into it and see how it does. I know when I enable the OC for the other levels I haven't had any issues on my machine. Mine definitely runs better with it overclocked than underclocked.

59% boosts VPS on rebel strike for me, but on rs2 it causes lag. only levels that lag for me on rs2 is the training one and a tiny bit of stuttering on hoth. lle makes all levels lag.
because rebel strike is more advanced nearly all the mission have slowdown in various places. edit, underclocking improved performance on some missions but made other unplayable. Also, pcsx2 already has it. Although underclocking the main cpu doesn't help in shadow of the colossus(it causes extra stuttering iirc), the bottleneck in that game is the vector units. In fact, it's almost required to set vu cycle stealing to at least 1 in sotc no matter what cpu you have. The game actually runs faster than real hardware with it set to 0 because of how they emulate the vector units, although that makes it considerably harder to emulate at full speed. 01-15-2015, 05:33 AM

my conclusion at least for my system is under/overclock via dolphin just made things worse.
rs2 - under slowed it down, over made audio stutter, wasn't needed since it runs 60fps on my system. rs3 - under made ground missions smoother but ruined flying missions, over just slowed everything down. runs best without any clock tweaking. space battles 40-60fps, on foot 50-60fps, high detail missions like endor at-st mission 30's to 40's. i'll just wait for more improvements. |
