that's what i've been told, d3d takes longer to cache shaders and causes more stuttering.

I have a nvidia card and ogl is not recommended. This game is working better in d3d for me

Well I was expecting a crash fest but I played through a couple of missions and the game works great with only minor slowdowns.
Now I only have to worry about getting gold in every mission like I did 12 years ago.......

Can anyone post their settings? I'm getting microstuttering in the game despite my hardware which is pretty beastly, including i7 @ 4.5GHz

try opengl (if not using it already), the stuttering is probably shader caching, it does it for each level you play (for the first time)
2nd play will be smoother.
