The GC renders in a strange YUV format with 5 bits for red and blue, and 6 bits for green. Dolphin can natively render in 24 bits which would effectively eliminate the dithering effect, however currently Seems that at some point the buffer gets converted to the GC bit depth again. So a way to stop the effect would be to stop dolphin from down converting from 24bit to 5(and 6) but. This would need some testing because:

the games actually needs to run in these modes since F5 do some tricks based on using them. some of the shadowing and Z might fall apart if we just switch to 24-bit, but again, testing would be needed.

In this gamasutra article, Florian Sauer a former factor 5 employee talks about rendering, and specifically mentions custom dithering. Look for "method 11: Custom Dithering"

Especially Method 11 with respect to custom dithering. Is this article suggesting that the GC will always output a dithered pattern for textures (for example, Rogue Leader has terrible dithering on the Hoth level for the skybox), or is it possible for me to override the dithered pattern?

I take it you mean the grainy dots covering the blue sky? i've always thought  that was odd.
You notice it a lot now, but back then, when the games were 240p and on tube TV's it was very hard to distinguish the individual lines, and since the color bit depth was so low and created lots of banding(what you see on monitors today during smog effects often) so they used dithering to lessen the banding effect.

just thought i'd share two icons i just knocked together in mspaint, yes mspaint. nothing fancy, if anyone likes to disguise a dolphin folder as a proper installed game you might find them useful.

they are better quality in ico form.

opps...just noticed i messed one up..will repost in a min. fixed.

Yes, because you are probably rendering at 2,3 or 4x the internal resolution, and playing on a 1080p screen, its much more obvious.

to be honest you hardly notice it when playing, too busy blowing stuff up Smile I just purchased a usb gamecube controller replica off amazon should be better than using a 360 gamepad, will feel more like the real thing then!

So are you suggesting that high-res skybox textures (on Hoth) will do no good?

You can experiment, but im pretty sure higher res boxes wont change the dithering as its built-in.

it seems some mission like prisons of the maw is very demanding, got even low fps as 25, even lowered normal res and internal res to 1.5, turned settigs of and on for days and testing, ow i need to use efbtoram.
and what settings ARE required for this game? maybe for missing effects that may stutter or lag the game or missing gameplay elements? or is there a older build that perfomed better then the new one?

tried both direct3d and opengl and opengl seems to be faster. And lle vs hle isn't much of difference in fps just a few in some levels, somethimes the lle is even better when switching back and forth with targeting computer to seek out enemies, very strange. And whats the difference between openal en xaudio2?

specs:
i5 3570k @ 4.2ghz
gtx 770 2g max stable oc.

still love the progress and the game
