Is there any specific testing I can do or info I can provide, to help detail the source of the occasional CPU bottlenecks that occur even when HLE sound is on (and in-game music is off)?

you do realize the music is not off, it just gets muted so that doesn't improve fps at all.

I think when the games are emulated better then performance will improve. Even on the gc the Hoth level had some slowdown because the real console were being pushed to the limits.

fun fact the star destroyer has 130,000 polygons! other ships are around 12,000.

I don't think any other games pushed the gc that much?

Guys is there a build of 1767 (with zfreeze) for Mac???

Because I have a Retina MacBook with a way more powerful CPU than on my desktop, and maybe it will run better on it...

Look for pull request 1767 on this page: https://dl.dolphin-emu.org/prs/ and download the .7z for it. Disable fast depth calculation, use EFB to RAM, and use HLE sound. In the game, turn the music volume off. It takes a very powerful CPU to run it, so set your expectations accordingly.
OS: Windows 8 Pro x64
CPU: Intel i5-4670K @ 4.2
GPU: Nvidia GTX 970

Thx!

Unfortunately I had forgotten that Mac OS supports only OpenGL :/

BTW: Is there a solution for the Targeting Computer Crash???

On my computer, yes OpenGL works for 1767 with RS2.

Yes it works. But I have the feeling that its way slower than Direct3D

On my Desktop PC with a Dual Core Core i3 (3,3GHz) and a R9 280X I am using Direct 3D and most of the time it is smooth

On my MacBook (OSX Yosemite) with a Quad Core Core i7 (3.4 GHz) and a Geforce GT750M with OpenGL it stutters a lot.

Maybe I have the wrong settings for Mac? Is there anything "special" to set up?

No special Mac settings that I could think of. It is likely a performance issue of the laptop CPU. There are threads about CPU differences you could check out if you'd like to learn more.

This game is faster in OpenGL. This is one of the most demanding titles in Dolphin thanks to Full MMU requirements + it is optimized to a T by Factor 5. And then there's still Rogue Squadron 3, hich is even more ridiculously demanding. So no, you won't get better performance in D3D.
