I'm new to emulating and started up Rouge Leader to give it a try. No matter what settings I use, the intro is very slow and the music is choppy and slowed down. Once I get to the menu, there are artifacts and it is unplayable. What can I do to solve this? I played Luigi's Mansion and Mario Kart without any issues.

Mario kart and luigis mansion are extremely light weight games and RS2 is one of the most demanding. Laptops aren't good for demanding games.

Make sure you're at least using a recent development build of Dolphin, NOT version 4.0.2 (see link in my sig)

just discovered that on the hoth level if you turn round after shield generator is destroyed you can fly back to the main battle and take out the remaining walkers, another shuttle drops off some more at-at's and there's some probe droids that fly out of the valley.

always assumed the game would do the turn around and force you to do the next stage of the mission.

Flying back at that point is also how you get the upgrade in that level (at the spot where the shield generator was destroyed).

I'm still having crackling or slow audio issues with this game, I'm using Dolphin 4.0-8193. Has anyone managed to fix this?

Well, the HLE audio is still not fixed. LLE is fine but your computer has to be strong enough to run the game at full speed, otherwise you will get cracking, too.
