Came up with a 16:9 widescreen patch that seemed flawless, no clipping issues or lighting problems (screenshot from a real console):

... but unfortunately it makes the game crash with an out-of-memory error at the start of the death star explosion cut scene Sad
Rebel Strike seems ok with it though, going to try a long playthrough over the weekend to be sure.

lol, that timing. I just came here to post "I wish there were a disable culling patch, or at least a widescreen patch for this game. I don't like the lack of floor at the sides". Great job!

@ tueidj: That scene has crashes issues either way. I think it had something to do with HLE audio; were you using HLE?

How do you run a patched game on a real console?

By clipping I assume you mean culling issues?

No, I mean clipping.
Culling is the process of discarding polygons which are obscured (behind other objects) and/or otherwise facing away from the camera. Clipping is the process of discarding (either completely or partially) polygons which extend beyond the camera's field of vision.

Woops, got em mixed up.

Either way, what did you do to fix the clipping? Because currently if you force the game to 16:9 there is serious clipping issues. Did you edit the clipping code!?
