It is the last build before the switch to VS2015, which messed something up.

Then i played it on the gamecube 6 years later and it was much easier to finish it. Now i am playing again and man.... does anyone have any AR code to make this game harder? It is too easy. Maybe i am a better player today than i was in the past or maybe it is because i know a lot more about it now. Well I finally finished the game and it only took me 15 years. Total play time 47 hours. This post actually motivated me to pull my dreamcast out of the closet to compare. Using a VGA cable the game looks really good! There's no denying it, the sound is much better which is a shame because RPGs and epic music really go together. It was a tough choice for me but in the end I think that the gamecube + emulator combo is more convenient. Lowered encounter rate plus everything loads and moves much faster including battle animations especially ship battles which could drag on forever. You can even skip S-Move animations using the Z-button. You can literally shave multiple hours off your play time because of this. I think the difficulty is just fine but does become easier once you learn the mechanics and once you get your heal spells it's almost impossible to die. The wanted list does give a very tough challenge though, even more so than the boss fights. First time I faced Lupee, fight took me almost an hour as I was still getting used to the game. That was stressful. Gained almost two levels on that fight alone lol. Warning: Spoilers in pictures. 09-24-2015, 04:46 AM

I'm still curious if the sound formats are the same between the versions; if they are, it might be possible to import the DC music into the GC version to create the best SoA experience possible.
*edit* Would you mind posting a picture of the disc's file tree, or something like that? I can compare it to the DC file tree to see if the filenames are the same. If so, a simple file swap might be all that's needed, unless the GC version has a slightly different BGM format to accompany the reduced number of channels and instruments.
If i am not mistaken, the Dreamcast loads the audio data "on the fly", like on a normal CD Disk System. So perhaps the audio format should be something close to a CD-DA track???

No, the Dreamcast version either uses some kind of sequenced music, or it uses some kind of proprietary compressed streaming format that isn't ADX. The game would be way too large to fit on only two GD-ROMs if it used CDDA. The fact that the GC BGM was reduced to mono and has fewer instruments leads me to think that both games use sequenced music, so the developer just cut out some of the instruments and removed the stereo effects from the sequenced files in order to save space. If that's the case, then it may be possible to transplant the DC BGM files into the GC version to restore the original music while retaining the GC's graphical enhancements.

What makes you say the dreamcast isn't using ADX? I did a bit of google searching and people have successfully replaced the music in gamecube games with their own tracks. Even if the files are not the same format it would just be a matter of converting the dreamcast sound files to something like DSP which the gamecube uses so yes I do absolutely think it's possible. One of the neat things about Dolphin is if you rightclick properties of a game and going to the last tab, you are able to view the file structure of the game. You can even extract the DSP files however you'd need some kind of plug in inorder to listen to them.
It's just a shame that the PS2 and PC versions of SoA were cancelled at the last minute as they would have been the definitive version of SoA. It's also pretty impressive that Nintendo was able to fit both discs of SoA on one disc when you consider all of the content that they added. Makes sense that they had to cut something somewhere. 09-26-2015, 12:52 AM

GC discs can hold ~1.4GB of data, but each disc of the DC version tops out at around 700+ MB. Shave enough audio data down, and it's not surprising when you look at the math. Though, I'm not a huge fan of the music regardless of the quality, so the GC version is just fine for me.
I have read, since the launch of the DC, that its unusual GD-ROM format can hold 1.2GB of data. Of course, if you try to check it out the size of a DC Iso found on the Internet you will notice that it is 700MB long, at best. All of them are sized-down images, with some things cutted down to fit on a normal CD-ROM. This is why ripping DC games kinda sucks, because you can't store your own image on a CD and play it. You need to compress it somehow.
GC disc is 1.35GB long, so this is only 12% more than a DC GD-Rom. 09-26-2015, 02:55 AM
I dunno if DC dumping utilities compress stuff or just cut out unnecessary stuff (like scrubbing Wii dumps). In either case, there's only around 1.4GB of data that the DC version really needs to run, so that goes a long way for stuffing it into a single GC disc. Also consider that a lot of the data on those two DC disc is going to be redundant (music, textures, models and such are copy+paste), that helps even more :p
