I just tried to play Pokemon Colosseum after it being a long time (last time was on the actual GameCube console), but when I tried to run it...I got nothing but lag. The frame rate drops between 20FPS-30FPS many places in the game. It is really bad at the Intro Logo screen (the ones that cannot be skipped) all the way to the main menu screen (where you choose a New Game, Continue and so on). I have not idea what is going on and why it is so laggy. I am using the newest version of Dolphin (Version 3.0-864) and here are my laptop specs (yes I am on a gaming laptop):
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Intel® Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz 16362MB RAM DirectX 11 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M (with 2GB of memory) I also can post how I have Dolphin setup if need be. Unless someone knows the best setting for Pokemon Colosseum? Basically...Pokemon Colosseum is (right now) unplayable for me. So if anyone can help me set it up correctly, then that would be awesome. Thanks 12-02-2012, 10:33 AM
The problem is your hardware. This is a demanding game, and your CPU isn't strong enough to run it any faster. You can try using Dolphin 3.0, the last stable release along with these speed settings. Other than that, make sure your CPU isn't throttling itself so you can use turbo boost.

I am surprised actually. Ok...what about a desktop that has similar specs except for a i7 Core 2600K with 3.40GHz? Would that work better? Thanks or the help. More cores doesn't necessarily mean more power. Dolphin is a dual-core application, it's not going to use any more than two of your cores atm. It can use a third for processing LLE audio with LLE on Threads enabled. Have a look at what the website's FAQ has to say about this specific matter.
Take a look at the wiki results from testers (Test Entries -> click "Show"). It'll display the system they used and what kind of performance they got. Strong systems are required to get good performance. The i7-2600K should do quite well, especially once overclocked as LordVador said. 12-02-2012, 11:37 AM

On the matter of overclocking...I usually don't do this sort of thing (if never) because from what I have learned...it can be dangerous to the CPU. I will try running the game without overclocking, then if needed I will try overclocking my Desktop. I like to avoid pushing my equipment over the top...if possible. What can I say? I am just a conscious person i guess. Overclocking isn't dangerous if you know what you're doing. If you keep your temperatures and voltages within a tolerable range and make sure your system is stable after overclocking, you won't have much to worry about. Overclocking laptops is inadvisable, but for desktops, you should try to find yourself a decent cooler first if you intend to seriously overclock your system. There are plenty of guides online that will take you through the steps to successfully overclock your CPU; try googling "your-CPU-model overclocking" and you should get something you can use. Overclocking has been relatively safe for years now, especially when done with a bit of planning and foresight. |
