Hi everyone, I was playing Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door lately and there is one last star piece I apparently need to get but can't find it for the life of me. I went to Merluvlee to get him to tell me where, but every time I give him money, the game freezes and crashes. I've tested it and it only happens when talking to Merluvlee.

Can somebody help??

I'm OCD and really want to get all the star pieces. My game has been running very well on Direct3D 12 on Dolphin 5.0 and I haven't experienced many gamebreaking problems.

Thank you!!

Through a lot of playing, I've determined that dx12 works the best for my laptop. It runs really smoothly most of the time with the occasional slow down.

I was actually able to find the last piece on my own (it was in the last godforsaken place I thought to look Angry ) and don't need the guy anymore. I'll check to see if the guy works on another option though.

Thanks!

There's already an issue report about this problem: https://bugs.dolphin-emu.org/issues/9535

If you want to avoid the problem completely you can use OpenGL.

I keep getting an "Unknown Pointer 0x0338d40 PC 0x802b4d0 LR 0x805bb5c0" message when trying to transition from the blue car in the excess express to the shop/dining area on the first night time part of chapter 6. I have tried to switch from Direct 3D 11 to Open GL to no effect and I am running on Dolphin 5.0 any idea how to fix this?

Try turning off "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only". Dolphin should automatically start Paper Mario with this option disabled, just do not open the Graphics Settings menu while running the game, it reverts back to the user's chosen preferences instead. Also make sure the option "Disable Bounding Box" is not checked, thus Bounding Boxes are active. Make sure you use Dolphin 5.0 or newer (development builds).

I tried that and it did not fix the issue and Disable Bounding Box was not checked and I am using Dolphin 5.0

You could try to uncheck " Activate Dual Core". Paper Mario is well known for having issues with using Dual Core currently, This may get fixed some point in the future when the Dual Core functionality for Dolphin will be redone. If you really need the additional emulation power from a second core you could try setting the "Deterministic Dual Core" for Paper Mario to "fake-completion". This can be set separately for each game by right-clicking your game and then going into the "Properties" menu.

Normally you should not be concerned with this "Deterministic Dual Core" option. It is basically useful for Netplay and games that are in unstable in Dual Core mode while you lack the power to run it at fullspeed. For now, try first if you can maintain fullspeed with only disabling Dual Core mode. It might fix those crashes...

Sadly that failed as well.
