Can someone give some info on the lowest spec CPU and graphics card they know that runs this game with no problems?
I can run far cry 3 on high settings but cant run this game without being very slow.

Would it make a difference if I upgraded my CPU from a quad core to a 6 core?

Even the best CPUs have difficulties to get this game to work with no problem so you should look for highest specs instead of lowest ones Big Grin .

To give you an idea: With my old 760 (overclocked to the max Tongue ) the game works fine but not perfectly. My 3570k should do the job but I haven't tried this game with it yet

Just discovered that you can seemingly drift by tapping the brake and letting off the throttle a bit. Game has very deep handling. I think I prefer GX mode over the AX arcade mode. At least you get tickets in GX mode :p

Thanks for replying. Im asking for the lowest specs because I want to know if I upgrade to the highest CPU my motherboard will support (AMD phenom II X4 3.5Ghz) and overclock it, it would be enough. I am currently using a 3.2Ghz quad core overclocked to 3.8Ghz and I thought that would have been enough but it isnt.

Enough for what? Constant full-speed? Probably not. But it should work fine though.
Btw you should get a decent performance with your current CPU. What speed do you get?

Yeah for full speed. After further play testing, I've realised that its not so bad. It just starts off very slow. The title screen sporadically changes every second ranging from 20-60 FPS and speed of 50-100. When I start a race, the countdown is dreadfully slow. The actual races are more consistent, running at 30-40 FPS and speed at 50-70. I was just hoping that it would run at full speed as it seems quite slow.

Oh well. At least I have my trusty gamecube and action replay. Big Grin

I have been playing around with f-zero gx for a little while and something dawned on me.

At a number of points during the game the fps seems to lock to 30 and then release back to 60 again. I just assumed that it was because the game is so demanding but if that is the case I would have expected the fps to bounce either side of 30 but it doesnt it is 30 fixed for a reasonable amount of time.

Can anyone else with a reasonably high spec machine test to see if they get the same thing. Looking around suggests that this was a known problem a good while back and as such the "limit with fps" switch was added. I have tried every combination of the fps limiter that I can think of but it is still the same.

My Rig:

i7 920 @ 3.4
6 gig
dolphin build 3.5-1102 (linux)
opengl
Xubuntu

This game probably has an internal frame skipper, so when it detects that the game isn't running full speed, it skips every second frame, resulting in 30 fps.

I don't notice it running at 30 fps myself.

When frames drop for me it drops anywhere from 5 to 10 to 15 frames and anywhere in-between. It varies and I've never seen it go straight to 30fps and back up to 60fps on my rig. Seems you may have vsync toggled on in your graphics card settings.
