Gaming PC (mainly for Dolphin)

Not sure where you're getting the info that the 6700K won't recognize RAM at 3000MHz, my 6600K rig with DDR4 RAM is 3000Mhz and the RAM speed is recognized just fine in the BIOS. It might not do the full 3200MHz (cause damn that is HIGH!) but it will hit 3000Mhz if your BIOS is up to date etc.

First I'm hearing of Dolphin running much better with nVidia cards. Shame, as I've ordered a 380X, but nVidia's anti-competitive practices at the moment turn me off them. For regular PC gaming AMD seem to be making serious strides in DX12 anyway. Maybe that will be true too with Dolphin's DX12? I would make sure of that before you buy.

Also, I would go with air cooling. I had a h80i for my last cpu and a watercooler 770 too and the rig was loud. Now I have a noctua air cooler and its keeps my components at about 24c while also being so so quiet.

AMD's drivers are trash, so you get what you pay for.

It's not just Dolphin running much better with NVIDIA cards. AMD's Linux drivers are more than just trash, they can completely and randomly crash your whole system. Even when they work, the performance is not that great (compared to D3D on Windows or NVIDIA, both OpenGL and D3D). And according to some users their Windows drivers are not much better.

I have chosen these parts for my next PC:

CPU: i7-6700k
GPU: GTX 1080
RAM: G.Skill DIMM 16 GB DDR4-3200 (2x8GB)
SSD: Samsung 950 Pro
WiFi: TP-LINK TL-WDN4800
Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO
Case: Corsair 750D Airflow
PSU: be quiet! Dark Power Pro P11 650W


I settled for an air-cooled build, mostly using Noctua fans.

CPU cooling: Noctua NH-D15
GPU cooling: Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV


I have a question regarding the Arctic Accelero Xtreme. Which 1080 should I pick? Should I just get the cheapest 1080 (which would be the Palit GeForce GTX 1080 Jetstream for €729) since I'm going to replace the stock cooling anyway?


Now I have another question regarding the placement of the case fans. Would this placement make sense?:

- CPU fans
- GPU fans
- Case fans

At Linus Tech forums someone told me to use a "PWM fan control hub". Which one do you recommend?

Oh, and two more questions:

- Which PCIe Wi-Fi + Bluetooth hardware do you recommend? Would the "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 + Bluetooth" be a better choice than the one I mentioned above?

- I'd love to get an internal card reader which can read SDXC cards and more with additional USB plugs. Which one do you recommend?

Go for it.

Palit, Gainward, etc make good GPU's. They're not so "well known" because they only manufacture for Europe.
I've got a Gainward myself (from alternate.de) and it's really good. I'm getting around 198xMHz boost w/o overclock and have been gaming at 21xxMHz with an overclock.
You don't need to replace the GPU cooler, but if you really want to then go ahead. I'd say try it out first with the cooler it comes with.

It's a three-slot card, but it should be no problem for that giant case. Btw any reason you're going for a full-tower?

That's a neutral setup and is perfectly fine. You can play with the different setups to see which suits your build better.
Looking at your case, you should do fine with airflow fans.

Speedfan. Great little application but might be a little tricky to setup for the average consumer.
You can also use Afterburner for the GPU (also for overclocking it).

If you want to control those fans physically then you need one of these.
