Games Freeze on Frame 1?

A peculiar problem I haven't seen reported:

Every time I load a game, it loads fine on the first attempt. Then, once I close the program and re-open it, the game freezes within the first few frames and doesn't come back, usually on frame 1.

So far this has consistently occurred on three games: Metroid Prime 2, SSBM, and Zelda: Wind Waker.

Do I need to delete a cache or something? I'm really not sure what's going on.

I'm using a Q6600 (2.4 GHZ Quad Core) with 4gb ram and an nVidia 8600 GT video card.

Update and bump:

The game freezes stop when I disable "Enable Other Audio (Throttle)" and enable frame limiting, but of course this is not ideal. Is there some setting incompatibility? In addition, the text is all garbled (in every game). I'm so confused.

strange, that would mean your audio is somewhat messed up....
what audio card you got and are drivers up to date ?

i dont see why it should not, at least in 3404.

other audio costs performance, framelimiter does not.

In addition, the text is all garbled (in every game)

try native resolution without xfb and with auto scale.
