Gamepad not working

I am using dolphin 5.0, while trying to play games, even when I have the ports set to standard controller and have manually changed all the hotkeys in a set profile on the emulator, when a game is started the controller does not work and I can also not get passed the main menu of the game after waiting 5 minutes for the cutscenes to finish playing. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

What games are you trying to play? Many Wii games don't support GameCube controllers.

I am using an xbox 360 controller with the wireless adapter, playing zelda twp. The xbox controller has worked with it before. I just redownloaded to emulator on my new computer and wanted to play, have had it on previous computers and working fine.

The Wii version of Twilight Princess doesn't support GameCube controllers, so if that's the version that you have, you have to map your Xbox controller to an emulated Wiimote instead of the emulated GameCube controller that it currently is mapped to. If you have the GameCube version of Twilight Princess, I'm not sure what's wrong.

After configuring for the wiimote, in game I get a message that says "Wiimote 1 connected" followed by "Wiimote disconnected by emulated software"
