Nintendo announced the SNES Mini Classic yesterday, lets assume next year they did a N64 Mini Classic, would it be possible to do a Gamecube one the year after? To build a device to emulate the gamecube in a tiny form factor at a reasonable price point (sub £100/$100?) and pay for game licencing, production and make a profit? Would emulation be the way to go?

ha ha!! But seriously, could you fit the hardware into a device which could sit in the palm of your hand which could deliver the power needed?

Does anyone think it would sell? The SNES looks like it's going to be a hit, i'm curious if Nintendo will keep going.

They may find it better to wait about 5 or 6 years, for added nostalgia effect. Wait until more kids who played these games hit their 20s and get some disposable cash. Waiting longer allows for hardware to become cheaper and faster, especially if Nintendo is intent on using ARM CPUs like the NES Classic did. Eh, just speculation. I don't see it happening soon if they do decide to make a GC mini/classic.

I hold all judgement on this until I see Gamecube virtual store games (if they come out since it is still just speculation at this point) and how they perform under the optimum ARM processor conditions. If it goes well and Nintendo can do optimizations for the much more powerful switch (compared to the hardware that was in the NES Classic and probably the SNES Classic), then everyone will have a much more clear idea about how feasible a GC Classic is and maybe how long until the right level of hardware is cheep enough to run it at a price Nintendo would want to sell it at.

If they get to the GC era, what I would like to see is an updated version of the GC motherboard, using newer chips on smaller dies in a smaller board. Integrate the BBA adapter. Have a flash chip with games preloaded and have a slimline drive to play the already tiny discs.
