GameCube Controllers Not Registering

Hey friends, first time Dolphin user, trying to play Windwaker on PC. I have everything downloaded, with the GC adapter being read by Dolphin, and putting it on the correct controller port, but when I run the ROM, my controller's inputs are not being registered in game. I can't get out of the menu by any means, and I'm not sure what to do about it. Any suggestions/solutions would be appreciated.
