Gamecube controller works in config, but not in games

Hello,

I am using a gamecube controller attached through an adapter to USB. Windows installed the drivers fine, when I go into the controller config, it detects everything. I tested out every button, and they light up as they are supposed to. 

But when I go into a game, the controls don't work. Tested on multiple games and nothing.

I just don't understand how I can configure the controller in the GCPad  settings and everything works, but as soon as I start the game, it doesn't.

Also yes I have tried running as admin.

A little update. I found the same problem occured now in Project64, it detected the controller, and I was able to configure it, but once I got into a game it didn't work.

I used to play these all the time on this same computer, but I stopped for about a year, and came back. So I didn't have problems before. I'm not sure what to do.

Any help would be nice!
