Gamecube Controller periodically not sensing inputs

So I used my gc controller to play melee a ton, and there's a lot of maneuvers that require being quick. That being said, my controller, every minute or so stops sensing inputs for 3 to 10 seconds. I'm using an original black controller with the official Wii U adapter, and I know it's not a game problem because it persists in multiple different games. Any fixes?

I assume you are using direct connect?

Yep. I've tried multiple USB ports too, so it's not a bad port.
