Is there a version or fork of Dolphin that has GameCube Controller Adapter support which works on Mac OS X 10.8? I don't want to upgrade my OS at the moment, but I want to use actual GameCube controllers.

That's not what I'm talking about. I literally can't run any recent version, including 4.0-4599 because double-clicking the app tells me I have to have OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) to even open Dolphin.

then you should upgrade OSX (or run bootcamp, both are good ideas)

I don't have a 64-bit copy of Windows, and every time I do a major update to OS X I regret it. Apple seems intent on gimping or making 2 features substantially less useful for every new feature they add.
well, without 10.10, you won't be able to use the latest versions of Dolphin, so it's probably in your best interest to try upgrading. also, you said you don't have a 64 bit version of windows? you can use windows discs to do installs on 32 OR 64 bit systems

The message said I only needed 10.9, though. Is there some way I can compile my own version to work on 10.8? I doubt I'll get proper performance on anything higher than what I've got, what with all the performance issue horror stories I've read about Mavericks. All I want is the ability to use the GameCube Controller adapter. I don't the fancy tweaks and stuff in the latest versions. The newest stable version is doesn't have that support, and the oldest dev version that has that support won't let me run it on this OS. Is there something I or someone else could do to add support for the GCN controller adapter to version 4.0?

Dolphin requires support for OpenGL 3.3, which 10.8 graphics drivers don't support. You should upgrade to a newer version of OS X. If you're worried about stability and performance, perhaps wait for El Capitan?

yea, it's driver issue, not a coding issue. you're going to need a newer version of OSX

I see. I do want to use a newer OpenGL. I have a bootable installer on a USB flashdrive that I can use to upgrade to Mavericks. And the dialog that pops up when I try to open the latest version of Dolphin says I need Mavericks (10.9). So I guess I can do that.
I'm just apprehensive because I've heard plenty of horror stories from people doing multiple clean installs and still having major performance issues as of 10.9.4. I heard similar, albeit less numerous, stories about 10.8, but haven't really had any problems out of it. I suppose I'll upgrade sooner now, rather than later, just not to Yosemite or El Capitan. It's just my Mac is from late 2011 and I know every time I upgrade I'm essentially playing Russian roulette with my system performance. Still, Dolphin 4.0 runs much better than I expected with GameCube games, so unless the upgrade really screws something up, I should easily be able to play Wii games with no problem, possibly even in HD. That Skyward Sword and Okami, yo. Anyway, thanks for your help. |
