Game won't write save file?

Started using Dolphin recently so I could enjoy old games again. So far it seems to work perfectly fine with the latest version, but I decided to try out an HD texture pack for one of the games instead. It comes with a different version of the emulator. Game starts up just fine, but when it asks me to create a new save file, it won't register my input on 'yes' properly, and then when I try to go back it makes an attempt at the save, ending with it saying that there's no memory card in Slot A. I've been trying to compare the settings between the two versions, and everything so far is identical. Not sure why it's only having issues w/ the HD version. Any ideas on what the issue could be?
