Game won't register input?

I'm emulating Twilight Princess and when the game starts, it says to press any button to continue. I have rigged my controller as a Gamecube emulator (yes, I downloaded the Gamecube version of the game) but pressing a button does not continue past the load screen. I also set up my keyboard to troubleshoot, and the game won't register input from the keyboard, either. What do I do?
